Anyone in or near Bochum Germany?

I wish I was (spend 5 months in Reutlingen in spring 2013), but I guess I'll just pass on my beer recommendations if that means anything to ya.. Diebels Alt is incredible, and I cannot for the life of me find it back here, and my other favorite was Franziskaner Hefe-weisse.

Here is an aerial view of the red light district in Bochum, I have never been there but I have heard any red light district is good for a beer.

Spent my entire regular army tour in a town called Schwienfurt in Bavaria. Maisels wiessen sooo good.

Ha... I went to dinner with two German colleagues and their wives on Monday. A good bit of the conversation revolved around them telling me "that they are German, not Bavarian!".

Apparently they believe that Americans think all German things are Bavarian and vice versa. That is not ok it seems. Haha.

Ill make a note of that before i no wait Ill forget all about it cause I don't care.

In the village where we have our house the locals are known as "Oosies" - at first I thought my other German pals were calling them "Ozzies" [ Australian ] and couldn't work it out. Then I found out it's a pretty derogatory term for former East Germans.

Like most countries - there are internal differences between Counties / States / Provinces - with each one thinking they are superior to the other. Ask your pals about the Bavarians and Swarbs - next door neighbours who hate each other with a passion. When I was out there doing some consultancy work for my Bavarian pal who [ moved his manufacturing to the former DDR, near Dresden ] I was trying very hard to pick up some of the lingo. He and his fellow Bavarians were all taking the piss at my efforts - because I thought I was getting it wrng - but no, apparantly I had a broad "Oosie" accent.

Now I live in the village for part of the year, I'm getting even better with my "Ossie" accent !! I'll be trying it out again in a week's time when I'm out for our Summer break. BTW - missed your 15th. date by a few days - we arrive on the 18th. and we have an open house the following weekend for my Annual Pig Roast and BBQ.

I've heard that the USA isn't exempt from such things with some States thinking they are superior to others, and I'm sure there are States that are thought of as being .. well, not so with it. ? However, in the great scheme of things - I guess we are all equal - no ?

I also hear that US citizens get real upset when say - their National Flag is shown being burned ?

Well... Some states feel superior. But only Pennsylvania really is ;)

And, no. Americans are not ok with people burning their flag, but who is?

It's a funny small world we live in, I did a tour stationed in Bamberg and I still even have a few Maisel's Wiesse glasses too. Though I preferred Erdinger or Lowenbrau.

Was the best and worst times of being in the Army, state side station sucked so bad I was out and in college a year and a half later.

At our village in Reichenau [ Saxony ] there are 25 breweries within a 20 mile radius ! Radeberg is only 14 miles away - Radeberger Pils.

There are as many varieties of beer as there are breweries.

Our favourite is in Bautzen [ near Czech border ], where the master brewer greets us like long lost brothers every time we visit, and always insists on taking us on a tour to sample his latest brews !

We usually end up with a 25 litre keg of light and dark to last us for our break. We have to at least double up on that for the Annual Pig Roast festivities.

We like to make sure we have all the essentials .
