Too far, but if you head up to Sydney one day ;) Although not too soon as I haven't even picked up my CX500 yet, another two weeks and then the build.

Cheers

Hey Steve....nice to hear from someone in Oz. So you are getting a CX500 too hey? Are you looking to Cafe it or do you have other plans for it?

I'm contemplating riding (or trailering) the CX up for the next 'Ride with the Rockers' run in Sydney whenever that is on?

I'll try to keep in touch.

Cheers,
Rone

Yep, getting a CX500 too, Going to Cafe it. In complete coincidence a mate picked one up about 4 weeks ago and is planning on a hard tail bobber. My first priority will be to get it blueslipped and registered pretty much stock and then some clubmans and some suspension work to get it right while I sort out the seat and paint etc, plans are for it to be complete for spring :) You'll see me over on the AUS CX forum as well.

Cheers
Steve

Hey, we in Brisvages are alive and cafing, my CB WILL be ready for the VJMC meet in VIC in Oct :D maybe get together then for an unofficial gathering or an official one ::) we would need the blessing from the "brotherhood of the ton" ;) So what'll it be, hey hey ;D

my bike should be ready for the vjmc meet in oct as well, though i may not be in the country at the time. I don't think it will do the ton though...

i was trying to kick up some interest in the http://au.groups.yahoo.com/group/JapCafeRacer/ mailing list in a topic a while back. there definitely is a space for something to connect all the australian builders and riders across caferacer.net and dotheton.com and everywhere else.

I know you were trying to get a myspace group going Rone, unfortunately probably at the wrong time, facebook has definitely beaten down myspace in the social networking stakes.

I read something somewhere about a club in the US organising a kind of urban rally/ scavenger hunt, and was thinking it would be cool to run one in melbourne. I've done a lot of bicycle alleycats, which are a similar idea, you get given a list of questions or checkpoints, then bomb all over town to a series of hard to get to locations, generally incorporating some gravel roads and backstreets, cobblestones to test your handling skills. results can be based on speed, which might not be a good idea on motorbikes, or accuracy. I'd be keen to organise something like that, nothing like some friendly competition.

Hey Steve, great, good to know there will be other Cafe'd CXers in Oz. I too am on the Aus CX Forum but haven't been on there for a little while now. Hey, if your mate wants some inspiration for his CX Bobber, I know of one here in Victoria and the guy has done quite a tasteful job considering its a CX, I haven't seen too many CX's converted well into Bobbers but this one is not bad at all. I haven't met the guy yet but if you send me your email I can send you a photo of it.

Cheers,

Hey Rod......great, my old stomping grounds (sort of). I was originally from the Gold Coast but used to frequent BrisVegas often and still visit regularly as I have family there. I'll definately be at the VJMC myself so I hope to meet up with a few like-minded Cafe / Bobber fans. I really dig the old style custom bikes thus the reason I've tried to style my CX in that way (well, as best I can).

I haven't decided if I'll meet under the name of 'DTT_Australia' or simply 'NRG_Nostalgia Riding Group' that I started on MySpace as I don't want to alienate anyone's machine that doesn't 'Do the Ton' ;D Plus, although I like Cafe Racer styles I do like the old Bobbers too.....just big in the whole 'Rocker' scene I guess.

Hope to catch you in Oct.

Hey Liam,

I'm up for the 'Scavenger Hunt' thing.....any reason to get out and ride with others. Where are you based?
As for the NRG (MySpace) thing I started, yeah, it hasn't quite been picked up by many people....but really, Facebook is probably good for networking with friends and family but MySpace is better for promoting calender events / rides and informing only those who are interested, I hate Facebook due to the fact you get all this crap from people wanting you to 'Join this Cause' or 'Answer these questions of your 5 favourite things' or 'Add this Application to your Page'....i prefer the 'Bulletins' and 'Posts' of MySpace for informing of upcoming events or rides (if I ever get enough people to organise one.....hahahaha).

But I agree.......we should get a local network of Cafe Racer fans up and running especially if we organise groups in each state (it gets kinds boring riding on your own). There is the 59 Club down here in Melbourne and they are a nice bunch of blokes but not many are into the whole (build a bike in the Cafe style thing) or into the 'Rocker' side of it, which is not a big issue and I myself only own a '78 Jap Bike trying to emulate something cool and British.....but I'd like to ride with at least older bikes rather than late model Triumphs, Kawasakis, Yamaha sports bikes. You know what I'm saying? ;)

Cheers,

If you guys would like a separate space on this forum like we've done for diffferent regions in North America, I'd be happy to set it up. Just let me know.

i'd definitely be into that, there's enough of us on here to warrant it. just one for the whole of australia,

Thanks Tim, although I wasn't sure if it was going to be of any benefit unless there were a few riders in each state as our country is pretty big and you need to travel an average of 7 to 9 hours between states here. But thanks anyway and hopefully sometime down the track a group of us can meet up over here.

Cheers,
Rone
