Aussie 1982 CB750 DOHC - First Build

Have figured out the engine components so just a matter of putting aside half a day to finish the engine build.
From there I think I've got enough to piece the bike together enough for a ride after that.

I have the spacers done for rear alignment. Just having a front sprocket machined down to fit the 520 chain then I'm in business.

Or massage the bottom of the tank to straighten it out like this work in progress

That GS1100E tank used to be similar to your Honda Tank.

Or fins a way to make new side covers that integrate with the tank and your new seat - but smaller than stock side covers.

Finally an update for the build. I've been busy with work and shooting so haven't been able to give the bike the time it deserves.
Last night, with the help of a mate we set up the swing arm and rear wheel spacing, welded the hoop on and removed the snapped mains bolt from last month. I'm hoping to finally put the engine back together this week and see if I can't fire her up.

Finally got a look at the chain alignment and pretty happy with it. May need a tweek in the future but will do for now.
Also working on a plan for rear brakes as I've found that the original plan of the Cbr caliper and bracket that belong to the swing arm won't work with the 240mm rotor. So investigating the possibility of running a CRF 450 rear bracket and caliper.
Anyone got any input on how the braking performance would differ??

Matt

coming together nicely , but i do see the tire hitting the rear loop, you have more wheel travel to full bump than you have clearance
pull the spring off the nshock and verify you wheel travel at fully bottomed out HARD before you proceed

Thanks MB

All over it xb, getting a stiffer spring made up plus have the full amount of pre load to play with.

if you are putting on a stiffer spring to limit travel you are doing it wrong

I'm doing away with magnetic pickups on the wheel for speedo sensing. Instead using this sensor off a CBR that drives off the front sprocket and converts mechanical drive into pulse signal.

Thanks yogi and silky, I certainly can't take all the credit on this. But I'm happy to have it in my garage. :)

I wish! Had a local machinist do it for me. He already had the program from a cb900 build he did.

Nice looking build you have going there. I was going to comment on the wheels too, they look really good on that chassis. Looks like you have a bigger budget that I do for my build. ;D
