Been Around the Block
Hey guys, originally joined in 2012 when I got my 1974 CB360. Had great plans, but life got busy, so ended up just big boring the engine and doing just some simple bolt on mods. Then I had to get cash in 2018 and sold the bike. Too bad as i did like the bike, it looked OK, and was pretty reliable and kinda fun to ride.
I managed to avoid owning a motorcycle for 5 months and ended up buying an 1980 XR250. I thought XR would have been a longer project, but all it needed was resetting the timing chain and off to the trails I went. That XR was not really doing anything close to what I wanted to do, so ended up selling that one in 2019. This bike went into a better home to some 50ish year guy who just wanted a bike to scoot around his farm.
Shortly after, I ran into another bike in not running condition. This time it was 2007 KTM 250 SX-F, My newest bike ever by fair margin. This one was little scary, even when the motor wasn't fully grenaded. It wasn't running, and KTM part prices can be insane. Anyway, started tearing into the engine after I did a leak down test and found the compression being way low., and found out the piston was really worn where the rings "reverse" at the top, so that was the obvious reason for no compression. After a moment of panic, I found out there is a local company http://www.fastent.com/ that is Millennium Technologies dealer. I went there one day after lunch, and they happened to have a replated cylinder in stock, so I took advantage of their very well priced exchange program. That day I got home from work, called my neighbor over, but the bike together, fired her up and ripped up and down the back lane. This bike hauls ass! It has some work still, but it's an awesome bike on our fast trails. Still own this bike, it's satisfy my dirt needs.
Most recently, meaning yesterday, I agreed to buy a sweet 1986 Yamaha RZ350 Canadian model from a friend. This bike purchase I managed to convince my wife to approve as I had a 40th B-day trip planned for this spring. Trip started as class A trip (boys only), but then was downgraded to class B (spouses allowed) as some participants had some travel approval challenges. From class B the trip was downgraded to class C (family trip, wife/kids, no inlaws) that we had booked and paid for already. Then this pandemic thing hit, and the whole thing changed to no trip at all. Luckily we got full refund. So in this context, I was able to convince my wife that the bike is a great substitute. So here I am, working on logistics to get that bike over to my place.
So here she is in my buddy's garage.
I know this doesn't necessarily fit this forum 100%, but there is so much knowledgeable people here, that I hope we can hang around. I have no huge plans for the bike yet, but am open to any ideas. I might want to try to repair the plastics. The windshield is not correct for the bike and the whole upper fairing is modified. I would rather not spend the $$$ in new plastic. The engine is ported AFAIK, but not sure of any other mods. I think I'll find out.
