Last weekend I was on my way up the 400 doing about 100kph and my bike (CB360) backfired and started to lose power (so much so I had to pull off to the side cause my speed was dropping so much). I had to limp back to Toronto on back roads because as soon as I got it up over 50kph the left side would sputter and I'd lose power. At some points I think that it may have actually given out all together but with the sound of the highway and all I can't be 100% sure. Now that I'm back int he city it's not preforming as she used to and she's still backfiring a lot but it's definitely rideable.
Anyone have any ideas on what might have happened? Or what I can do to diagnose this?
Check plugs. If they are fouled clean & regap them, then test by cranking the engine over with the plug out (but connected to the lead) and grounding against the block. No spark = dud plug. Replace both and you'll be fine.
Plugs ok? Sparking alright both sides? Hmmm, carby time. Give your carbs a good clean and note their settings. Take for a spin and see what comes your way.
Dud running after both those procedures usually means timing is out.
First, have enough gas? Yes, I know because I'm guilty ;D
Check plugs. Fouled plug/plugs easy to change out. Next I'd check points. Make sure gap is proper and that each contact is square (not rounded off even though they are round, the contact points should meet up square) and they should be clean. Should be able to google contact points honda 360 and gather info. That might be a good start.
I know there are many others out there with way more knowledge. Maybe thay can chime in.
I took the first plug out and it was dry and mostly free of carbon. Then when I moved to the other side and took the connector off it was pretty F***ed up. The part of the connector that snaps on to the plug stayed ON the plug! It was wet inside. REAL WET. So I dried it all off and snapped it together as best I could and it ran pretty nicely. I didn't get to go out on to the highway at all but she ran pretty well in the city. Much better than before.
NOW knowing that this may have been to problem where do I get the connectors from? I went to Part Source this evening but the guy (read moron) really had no idea what I was talking about and wouldn't help me out cause it wasn't for a car.
When I get some connectors will I need to replace the whole wires or can I just replace the connectors?
I grabbed a new set of plugs anyway just for the hell of it ($10 meh) so I'll put those in when I can get some new connectors on.
Saying that the caps are not connected to the wire then you would have to get wires with caps. My guess though, if they got water in them then there screw off spark plug caps and you can get those things from a bike shop or a lawn mower shop.
