If I measure voltage at the back of the switch on the always hot wire, I get 0. If I unplug the switch and measure voltage on the same wire, I have 12v. Bad switch? Ideas?

Have you checked the switch for continuity? you will have 1 main 12v in which comes from the fuse box and also joins with the r/r and 1 ground wire, then there could be up to 4 wires out 1 will be the ground out to your CDI, 1 will be a 12v feed to light switch block, so you just need to check them...

My meter with continuity went missing. I've got a new one on order, though. CB750.
