There was quite the discussion going on at cb750f.com in regards to cafe-ing bikes especially the cb750f. Here are some posts

Luba, I have not intentionally singled you out. Your bike is an F, although not my cup of tea, it is still an F, and belongs here. I however DO NOT want to see pics, and threads of C, K, SOHC, CL, pre 79 whatevers hacked up, called "cafe" and posted here just because they are Hondas. Leave that shit for dotheton, and quite frankly most of the "cafe's" there are shit!!! As for those pos called Harley. Keep any mention of those overpriced, mid life crisis, fat ugly bitch hauling chunks of iron on any site other than this one.

If you want to see hacked up, spray painted with stupid bar end, cafe gay mirrors then go join DOTHETON. Alot of the stupidity that is displayed there will have people with common sense shaking their heads in disbelief! If you want those big, fat obnoxiously loud, low performance turds otherwise known as peices of shit...er Harleys go join one of the many bazzillion forums dedicated to them. This is a 750-1100 Honda F ONLY forum, not too hard to figure that out, unless you're stupid....

fuck them guys! im a member there, but still..... wow, what assholes!

Ok guys... lets get together and build a 750f that smokes every bike they own. PJ... we need you buddy!

i mean, ill admit that some people here are inexperienced, and do more of a chop job then a really nice job, but overall, i see some seriously good work here! i mean for real... i havent seen ANY projects over there that come anywhere NEAR bikes like Kileys or troys...

although on a lighter note, i agree somewhat with the whole harley sucks bit (although not to that extent).

if you ask me, it seems like those guys riding their cb750-1100 F bikes got to their heads ::)

ehhh... whatever...
there is no such thing as bad press...
the very mention of DTT only increases our viewership numbers and eventually our member sign-ups!!..

so be it!!..

I think its funny...

the fact is, there are always grumpy assholes in every forum... doesnt mean that all the members from that forum share the same attitude...

hell.. I didnt even know that cb750f.com existed... as Im sure that many of their members didnt know that DTT existed!!...

Besides, you should see some of the other "bad press" we got from other cafe racer forums!!... compared to those, that post is pretty tame!! ;D

See??.. its all good... now we'll get a whole bunch of new members sign on...

;D

I dont know about that... I do want to own an pre-war panhead or knucklehead hardtail one day!!

I dont post on their site but.. I bet I can build a better bike that will draw more attention than the 10 best builders on their site.

Reading those couple of posts if you left out the words Honda you could almost think you were on a Harley forum. Sounds like, to be a contributing member of that forum, you must be a very specific person. I would think you would have to conform very closely to a specific way of thinking and dress. I've never been to that forum (mainly because I don't own a 750F) but reading those posts I won't be in a hurry to get there. Plus I might cause a few heart attacks if I announce howdy! I have a Norton and a Weslake sidecar and am a big fan of DTT.

Some people like to hack their bikes up... see what they can make of them. Others don't. It's a shame people have to be negative nancy's one way or the other. To each his own, and try not to give a sh*t what others think. If people are gonna be that close-minded on that forum, I wouldn't want to be a part of it. Don't have to worry about it though, since I don't have a 750f.

Let's not all get silly now. As Leon said, there are dipsticks on any forum. This group has a few gifted individuals that can do almost anything, a a powder king and lots of people on low to non existent budgets learning as they go.

That's all good.

Some of the builds here - like kanticoy's for example are amazing pieces of art and engineering and some of the others are lessons in how most of us started out.

BTW CB1100F is nothing special. Not many of them have CB1100R's do they? Those were a bit more special and expensive, but that's another story. In the end, they are all just bikes, so let's leave the "my d*ck is bigger than yours" nonsense alone and focus on learning and improving and having fun.

Yeah, my vote is ignore it. It's a single-marque forum, and some of them are a bit precious. It is what it is. In the end, it doesn't matter. You get dickheads on every forum. I'm sure we have a candidate here too ;)

Oh. and I'd like to think *my* cb1100f is special. A single year model, the end of the air-cooled DOHC model line, and culmination of all the associated research and development - including the 1100R.

But that's the great thing about this forum. It's marque-agnostic. It's the individuals' input that we all admire and appreciate.

cheers

here is the response from one gentleman over there when I talked about my cafe racer cb900 project...

"No it doesn't matter scince its not really going to be an F when he's through with it.Just another cafe".I always believe they took any UJM that was plain and made it SPORTY, not take a classic sporty bike and modify it to be sporty.Kinda redundant don't you think. One more off the road."

while they do have a shitton of good info for my bike, I still come here more

Although I must say, the fact that so many folks here were so quick to say "eff that" is cool (unity and all) I have to agree with a few of ya. Who gives a shit? Like Loco said, any publicity is good publicity. Youll find closed minded douche bags everywhere. We've had our share here as well.

Also... lets not forget how much negative talk has been generated here by members in reference to other forums, and bikes. He who cast the first stone, and so on...

Well, its a good thing I only have 750K's. I wont have to worry about joining that forum.

What if I made an F clone from my K, posted there and never told them it was a real K?

very good point...
When Tim and I started this forum back in 07, it all really began around the local members.. friends... all who just happen to have the same passion for vintage bikes and cafe racers... It was never intended or invisioned to be bike specific, or a technical forum.. it was all about rides, get-togethers, wrenchin assistance, etc..etc... in short: the gang...

So as a result, DTT's roots were about the people and the personalities, which evidently shows in their bikes..
ie: Tims xs650 vs. My XS650...Tims XS650 is pristine perrfection vs mine "slap together in 2 weeks" job... : personalities...

I think that is one of the reasons why DTT grew as big as it did far beyond Tim's and my furthest expectations. you guys should have seen the MSN board we used to have/use before DTT... very primitive but busy!!..

Sure we did have our shares of DTT dinks and diva girl-guides.. but they never dared to flame others on DTT.. They were just dinks and diva girl-guides in person... thankfully they dont hang around DTT anymore nor do they hang out in person... ( they'll just flame DTT or DTT members on other forums...which again is fine... no such thing as bad press!!)

So at the end of the day, I dont mind nor do I care about others may fell or think about DTT...

I personally dont know about any other forum where I can post that a DTT member from Toronto is stranded at Bonneville with a busted chain... thousands of miles away from home... and a bunch of local DTTers in that area would come out to help..

I dont know of any other forum out there where I can post that Im gonna be in PA and I get PM's from local DTT'ers with invitations/offers to crash out on their couch...

there are so many stories about DTT'ers going out of their way to help out other DTT'ers.. way to many to mention...
Thats what we have over any other bike related forum out there!!..

Im damn proud to sport my DTT patch and colours... Damn proud..

my 2 cents..

+1

haters will hate no matter what you do.
great people attract great people.

this place is full of great people

Some how I always end up rolling with this kind of crowd. The creative, non conformist, original thinking folks. I mean, it's not like WE created the cafe racer, but I think there are a lot of original takes on the design here. If fact, we have some "cafe racers" here that some cafe racer fans wouldn't dig. I think that's cool. Reminds me of my favorite Zappa quote:

"without deviation from the norm, progress is not possible."
