Hey everyone. I recently got an '81 CB750C and the former owner decided it would be a fantastic idea to take out the baffle. Needless to say, it's incredibly loud. I'm wondering if any of you have an idea on how to make up a custom baffle. A buddy and I already tried a custom two stage baffle out of some steel, but it collapsed from all of the pressure placed on it.
If you have a motorcycle or car salvage place near by go down and see if they will let you rummage. you need something that will fit into the outlet of your exhust. when I originally built my bike I had emco trumpets I got baffles from honda shadow. the baffle I have found is usually tacked on the end only. drill out the tack and pull out the baffle. you will have to drill a hole into the backside or underside of your current exhust and put a nut and bolt through. I got some fiberglass batting for mufflers at a local cycle gear for $7 you don't need much just make sure if there is a hole at the far end of the baffle you plug it with a nut and bolt to get good dispursion of the exhust through the fiberglass.
The reason you go to salvage it does not matter what the outside looks like you can even take dremel and cut it open to get baffle out you just need to be able to see it is a straight baffle and does not flare. I paied 2.50 for each muffler I got they were just going to scrap them.
