Barn find bonny

neckyzips

Been Around the Block
So i was aggravating the owner of a local marina for some odd parts, were digging around in these old buildings searching... Go in one and under a pile of stuff is this old bonny! Some small talk about it, he doesn't appear to be interested in it, figure i can get it for little to nothing, (hopefully)... I go back a month or so later, were shooting the shit, here in the south thats part of the process. Off handily i ask about the bonny, he says, "theres a trailer over there, take it with you", wtf, I'm thinking, so i drag it home no questions! Anyway already long story over i got home got it to run a bit...it stripped it down, paint, polish, little reconfigure, lots of new parts, masters, tires, carbs, pipes, bars, etc and in a month of nights and mornings have it up and going! Still needs fine tuning, some rearsets and a paint job on the tank and home made side covers.

Note: i wasn't sure what I had as far as the engine went so, some of the parts are not top notch. Pwk china carbs: one kick start and minimal tuning allows her to do well over 100mph pulling well through the whole range with no dead spots. Nit bad for carbs that cost less than a rebuild kit! China front and rear master cylinders: rear is nissan copy, its pretty good. Front master is like an old cb/kz copy, its decent, but the mount isn't very good, otherwise its not bad. Those fry piggyback shocks, i guess i got lucky as they are really good, they arnt ohlins, but for the 50 bucks they are great! I busted the lucus head light... So a trip to napa yielded a car high low sealed beam for <10 bucks that works just fine. I had a company make up some stainless braided lines front and rear was 60 bucks shipped, very good deal. The tirea are shinko 755 i think, i had my doubts as im a bit of a tire snob, but so far these are good, while this is a light non performance bike, they have a good feel. Nice response, great turn in and are pretty sticky.

Had to make some parts, exhaust spigots, spacers for the forks, oil filter since i blasted the frame i wanted one inside the oif just to be safe, just little things but she came together in a budget rebuild quite well.
Now shes doing time with another member getting some finial touches, paint on the tank and covers, rear sets (plan is to use the stock pegs on reverse side and rotate the kicker forward to allow full rotation with out having a folding peg) maybe it will work.
After running her for a while the valves need attention and like the old cb's she leaks around the cylinders till shes good and warm, but with only 2500 original miles its a good starting point.

Holy cow!!! right place....right time....!! What a find!

Wicked job with so far too!!

Very nice. Can't beat a free bike (well, not by much, anyway).

I sure hope you cleaned the main frame tube out to spotless before assembling and dumping oil in there! Sandblasting those frames is a dodgy proposition.

Thanks guys, yep the frame was washed washed and rewashed several times then replaced with he top hat with a paper filter just in case.
