battery question- can I use this?

I have a 70 CB100 in the works and want to place the battery between the rails under the seat.

Is there any reason that I can't use this battery since it is kick start, don't need any CCAs, and really only need to run the lights? Or is this going to cause some seam at the edge of the universe to rip apart and suck us all through a black hole?

Open to criticism and open to taking risks.

You can, but it will fail. I know from experience. Those batteries are not made to be recharged in the manor a motorcycle operates.

Try something like this:

What if it's not connected to the charging system? And it's being charged by trickle charger?

I'll look into the ebay link when I'm at home; work blocks ebay ;)

A similar battery lasted about two weeks in my old CB350 before it melted.

I'm confused as to why you'd run the battery without it being hooked up to the charging system...

Also, ignore that link up there. Just realized you're working on a CB100. It's a 6v system.

Yinzer, you had problems with an AGM battery? Are you sure it wasnt a lifepo? Havent heard of any issues with the AGM's melting down.

I never have; quick solution to the charging issue you mentioned. What would happen if the charging system was disconnected? Like I said, open trying things and making mistakes, but want to minimize risk at the same time.

Nothing would happen. Youd just have to charge it. But also your lights will be dimmer because they are not getting the constantly added current from the charging system. If your entire charging system is functioning properly (regulator and rectifier included) there is no reason to run your battery at total loss.

Thanks for the input DOHC and VonYinzer.

Honestly, it's a CB100 that sits about a foot and a half off the ground; don't really see myslef riding too much at night or much more than just around town and the occassional gathering.

I hear ya, but it's less than $20 for a proper battery and the wiring on the 100 is SIIIMPLE. No point in doing half a job just because you probably, maybe, most likely but perhaps not won't use it. Ya know?

belly laughing :D

I got you, I had it kicking around and I'm a cheap-skate (you know, married with children and all) I'll do it the right way; usually do in the end. Plus it fits perfect between the rails. I'll look at your ebay link later and see if I can't find the same demensions.
