Been Around the Block
I got a super good deal on this Benelli tank just under $200 shipped! A bonus is that it came with a gas cap. The guy literally put it in a cardboard box and THATS IT! Also showing off my new 2.15 mikesxs rims. I am going to lace them up to my 70' cb350 with my CB77 from drum hub (1" larger than stock). These rims have a few advantages like spreading the tire out, giving better feel. Weight and vintage looks also help out, and all the racers use this setup except some might spend ~3x more on Excell or other name brands!
Taking it out of the box this thing is heavy I am pleasantly suprised. No dents at all. I think I was expecting something poorly made, and I think it impressed me how solid it is whcih made me want to write this review. Question, how could this 1967-69 tank be literally NOS looking? Was there a cache of them someone found in a WW2 bunker
? It doesnt look like its been used much if at all. There is still orange overspray paint inside.
Looking online there are 2 copies of this tank, one is made mostly in China and is slightly different, it has a different tunnel and not as much clearance. The 2nd type is made in India and is a very similar copy with seemingly better tunnel room. This is the BEST version with the "line" on the bottom and is the tank displayed on the BREW CB350 below. Here are also some pics of both on CX500s.
If you are looking at one of these tanks I would suggest getting the OEM Italian one, this thing is built like a tank, its heavier than a Honda tank. If you are thinking about buying a Ebay China/ India replica dont, spend a little more and get a OEM one. It has knee indents and embossed spots for a round emblem. From what I have seen emblems from bikes like a Honda dream or bomber seem to fit just about 1.5mm smaller which is actually about perfect.
