Bike stand.....

Hey Everyone!

Im guna be building a 7foot long, 2ft wide and 2 ft tall stand (essentially a box) with open storage on the bottom and 4" casters.

Im sure some of you out there work on similar surfaces, but what to you use to keep the wheels off the ground? I was thinking of picking up a cheap track stand for the rear, but the front poses a problem. I have a CB450, which has caps on the bottom of the fork to hold the wheel on. Should i just put a block under the frame and use a ratchet strap to keep it from tipping over?

Just looking for ideas and see what other people have done.

im making one out of wood because im starting from the frame up

but i tore down my bike with the center stand down and then got the rear wheel off then the front and then it was just the frame on the ground

That's basically what I use. It's a harbor freight tilting chock at the front and a paddock stand on the rear. Works amazingly well. When I need the front to be elevated, I use a floor jack under the bike, and the 4 strap ties at the corners hold her still while she is jacked up on the jack. Works great.

Thanks kanticoy...thats pretty much exactly what im about to build. I thought about one of those front chocks, but looks like it might get in the way if you try to remove the front wheel. I think im guna buy a cheap set of track stands for the time being, and use a floor jack as you mentioned. Im def guna put some eyelets for ratchet straps tho...id hate to have an OOOPS!

Kanticoy that table came out legit. I see you put wheels on the botom , does it slide around much? shoot the deminshions! I use a freaking piano stand with a piece 2 inch plie wood.. I just got a job at home depot in the lumber department so i think it is time to get crafty..

Scissor jack out of an old Caravan. Wood top for no-mar surface, in this pic a couple delrin blocks added to clear cooler lines.

All my bikes it will lift either wheel depending on where you place it on the frame.

Yes, it still needs tie downs to hold the bike upright.

Get a chock that you can put the rear wheel in as well. Get some soft ties so you can come off the rear subframe w/o scratching it.

I made one exactly like kanticoy's today. I made it 7' long, 2' wide and 2'high with 4" casters.
I bought 2 casters with locks and 2 without...it doesnt slide around at all. I also installed an eyelet in each corner so i could use ratchet straps.

I see both sxe and kanti are using the front wheel chocks......do you guys find them cumbersome when trying to remove the front wheel? I used some 2x4's and made a chock today, and its working fine, but having something more secure would be nice too. Any input???

I bought myself a motorcycle/atv/dirbike/lawntractor stand at Princess Auto. The thing weighs 150lbs im sure and is good quality. Not as tall as others benches, but sitting on a stool it works fine. Cost me $100. It's also rated to 1500 lbs.

Looks like this:

Ps: looks are deceiving. Theres enough room to have the whole frame of the bike on the rubber padded platforms, perpendicular to the pump handle.

That's why I'm saying get a chock you can also put the rear wheel in to work on the front.

I have the Craftsman version of that jack Johnyeatsgood posted. It's super handy for tire swaps and whatnot, not so much as a general work stand.

You're going to find there's no one perfect setup for every situation or bike. Nice thing about a wooden stand is you can just screw too it whatever you need at the time then remove when done.

Exactly. I love the chock. And there aren't many times that I need both wheels off of the bike, except to do tire changes, but even then, just do one, flip the bike, and then do the other. It doesn't roll around. I used 6 casters, and the 4 corner casters are locking. I can lock them down, put the ramp up to the bench, and roll the bike on without it moving no problem.
