Blacking out engine with flat black high temp paint (rattle can)?

edelweiss

Coast to Coast
1. Any scuffing necessary when painting CB500 engine?
2. Is it ok to use a high temp flat black paint (rattle can)?
3. Is Duplicolor a good paint to use?

Thanks!

John

Yes, yes, and yes.
BTW, an easy way to scuff the paint in hard to reach areas such as between cooling fins, is to use a round wire brush.

I found that brass bore brushes (rifle barrel) work really well when attached to a drill, and they are pretty cheap at $2 each.

i did a full write up on this if you want to check it out, it is in the $50 mod thread... personally i like to use a engine degreaser, then 3 or so cans of non clorinated brake cleaner... works awesome to get it clean...

NAPA house brand silver outer cases, Duplicolor Mopar satin black barrel, head, inner cases and hubs. Acetone washed and driveway painted, covered the whole thing with heavy black plastic for a week in the southern sun to help heat set the paint.

You don't need fancy, the parts were sprayed in the front yard, and are dust/insect free. Worst case, you have to paint the parts a couple times to get the feel of spraying all the odd shapes while getting even coverage.

Duplicolor and Rustoleum engine paints both work fine, I've had nothing but headaches from VHT, the colors never seem to be true...
