Are the T500 and XS650 drums identical?

Sorry, when you wrote T500 my brain saw XT500. I know what both T500 and XS650 drums look like and have one of each in my storage. Now I not sure what brake that is, although it might be a bit narrow for a T500. I'm confused now, a minute ago I thought it was a disc brake off of a Norton :)

Pretty sure the Yamaha had the 6 holes in the hub which I don't think the Suzuki had, but happy to be corrected on that.

The ribs In the center look like a titan to me. The holes could've easily been added later

It is certainly possible to start with an XS1 drum and cross drill the flanges, but easier to start with a T500 Titan/Cobra hub which is already cross drilled and simply drill a few holes in the plate.

The XS holes are larger than that drum.

Besides, why fit a Yamaha brake to a Suzuki? Who would do such a thing?

More to the point, that's way more braking force and way more unsprung weight that cure little bikes needs. At least it's less likely to overheat and crack than they do on a bigger bike, so that's a plus.

I found a few nice 2 bangers at the Melbourne DGR ride today. I spotted a rare NSR400 too but didn't manage to get a photo. I have never seen a NSR50 on the road before!

It's funny, I bought a mini bike frame off of a guy who's yard connects to where I have worked for 8 years. Never knew what he had in his shop... it is filled with all manner of amazing condition vintage bikes... including at least 6 nsr 50's. One of which is his "daily rider". Though I've never seen him out on it.

You’ve got that all backwards, you need to wring the piss out of it right off if you want everything to wear in properly.

i have found this to be the case, brand new vespa run in according to the book, never very impressive, ended up putting a sidecar on and writing it off half an hour later. insurance gave me another new one, thrashed it from the word go and it was way more responsive and seemed to have more power ( when you've only got 12 to bargain with you're looking for every one you can find ) , rammed that one into the side of a car a few months later ( and the next one too...)

i do now, the last one ( well nearly last one anyway) that i had detached its back wheel from its one sided axle causing me to slide into the armco railing support at well over 60mph pushing the ball of my ankle up the middle of my leg...

and lets not get into the regrettable incident with a vespa and a sidecar.....

this was my 32nd accident on scooters in about two and a half years and it finally persuaded me that this was not a great way to get about

i did have a couple more scooters after that but never rode the shitful things, it was just a hard habit to break, had 17 all up in that time

since giving them up i've ridden another 33 years and only had 3 minor get offs
