soo ive been looking around for some time now. this is my first bike but not the first time fabricating. so here it is.
paids a whole two hundred bucks for her and she runs although after tinkering with her i realize one of the carbs float is suck closed. so will be replaceing the carbs. and this is how it looks now
i was gonna just do a bratstyle but it just looks to simple to me .
so after lookin around for awhile for inspiration i came across this. built by one of my favorite designers Roland sands
so after much arguing with my self i finally convinced my self that it was just a 250 dollar bike(although i bought it off the original owner who also gave me the orignal MO title.) i finall started really cutting
first design out of coat hanger just so i can see it out of my head.
after i decided i liked it i just said fuck it grabbed the sawzall and went a littly crazy. after spending some time with my new tube bender i ended up with this.
id actually like to extend the swingarm four inchs but that would put the shocks at a very extreme angle. so i thought about doing a monoshock after seeing grella. i also though about just leaving the swingarm at stock length and putting on an air ride system.but money is tight for me like many of us. so it may stay at stock length and just recieve some very nice shocks (lmao) like these
and i ordered this headlight which was only 40 bucks shipped
if i dont like it im only out fourty bucks and i got plenty of buddys that will buy it off me.
so plans are
finda suzuki gs450 tank.
finish the welds
paint or powdercoat the frame (chrome powder or just black if i paint)
figure out an led tail (not running signals just mirrors)
rewire bike
paint wheels black
buy tires
make seat pan and have it covered
finish exhaust
and last but not least cut down kickstand and remove all useless tabs on bike.
although i have had more than one thoughts about just stuffing a cr 250 engine in this thang and run the heck out of it. so waht do you guys think?
definitely digging that tail piece. I just got myself a welder, and hopefully after a bunch of other projects I will feel comfortable welding a motorcycle frame / doing some real fabrication. My idea is similar to yours, although retaining the stock shock mount height but making a drop for the seat rails so I'd be sitting within the frame after it's said and done. I imagine it would require less cutting than you've done. Either way I'm in htis thread to see the outcome. Keep us all posted!
Well I wouldn't call myself a professional welder but I do have plenty of friends here in my town that are. I've just got everything tacked together with stick and my buddy will mig the rest after I finish my shock mounts.
so i got the headlight in and mounted it up. i threw on the old cl tank to just see how it looks as a bike and i think i really like it. kinda reminds me of a vintage resto mod street fighter haha now i think that may be a totally new category. so everyone tell me what you think. now this wont be the tank im using. im trying to find a good suzuki gs450 tank but no such luck. i may go with an xs750 tank or a 360 benelli tank. anyways here it is

Lets bring these pictures to this page ;D
I freakin love it. Way to think outside the box. Looks killer at that height or could run short shocks on the rear and lower the front way down. Low and mean like. Lots of choices. What ever you do I love it. Just something to consider, not sure what kind of seat room you will have with a longer tank?? What kind of bender are you using? Really nice job on the bends. Keep up the good work.
The rear end will be about four inches lower when I make the shock mounts. Ill lower the front to match or come close. I've got the forks pushed up two inches in the tree s now. The Bender I'm using is just a 200 dollar harbor freight Bender. I've wasted about 50 bucks worth of metal figuring out the best way to bend with it but it worth it. I was thinking about the cb200 tank I messaged you about or maybe a cb360 tank. If I go with the 360 tank ill try my hand at knee dents. I've never used bondo but I've done alot of drywall so hopefully I can pick up on it quick. Thanks for the kind comments guys. Ill keep everyone updated ( I started this thread so my dad can watch My progress lol. He lives in Tennessee and I live in Illinois ).
FYI - I've heard of fairings similar to that crack from wind resistance at highway speeds. Just something to keep in mind.
Tough on the GS450 tank - they are hard to come by. Have you looked at the GS850's or 1000 / 1100 tanks? very similar in shape. Just a little bigger. Matter of fact - do an ebay search for gr650 tank. It's a cruiser tank with knee dents.
so that harbor freight bender is worth it? I was considering picking that up soon. I've never used one but I really have a ton of reasons to get it since I'm about to build some skate ramps. What kind of radius can you make with that?
Interesting build. That tail section is really cool. I cant say Im a fan of the headlight/fairing/fly screen thing, but its not my bike. One thought on the tank, the ones youre talking about running are quite a bit larger than the stocker you have now. It will really completely change the lines of the bike. Keep the updates coming man.

hell yea on the gr650 tank. just the balance im looking for. cruiser with performance. but the one thing i am worried about is the size. is there any tanks that are smaller that look nicer than the cb tank? any ideas would be great.
heres that bender if anyone is interested in it. http://www.harborfreight.com/12-ton-hydraulic-pipe-bender-32888.html
its a hundred bucks cheaper now lol (figures!).decided today to make a sheet metal seat pan.i used 3/16 flat bar to reinforce the sheetmetal.the seat pan will be hinged and will set between the frame. cant deciced if i want it to run all the way up the tail or stop before the bends and leave the tail open. anyone know where i can get a good deal on neoprene seat foam?
and now some pics:
