Boiling Lemon Juice - for other parts?

Can this method be used for other parts? Since the 1st step of a rebuild is typically washing out years (or decades) of grime, this seems like a great method for saving time and getting into the hard-to-reach areas.

I tested it on a spare set of carbs for my cx500 after seeing how well it worked for others. There was cakes of grime and such everywhere including the nooks and crannies, but after about 45 minutes, everything cleaned up just perfectly. And it also help loosen up stubbon screws.

GoBears,

I've used this method on three sets of carbs with great results. It's about the only technique I've seen that can get the old gasoline varnish out of float bowls and clean the carb internals. For other parts it should work fine 1 part juice to 4 to 6 parts water, rolling boil for two hours.

Here's another idea if you don't have acess to a parts washer.....professional engine builders use steam and soapy water to clean blocks, etc. I would think that boiling parts in soapy water might actually be better to remove grease than lemon juice.

Anybody want to chime in here????

I think its just the acid that does all the work for you. Intresting idea about boiling in soapy water, I wounder if you would get bubbles full of steam. Nice and Dangerous. maybe I should go try it.

i saw a siphon sprayer today. just an air nozzle with a feed that sucks up whatever before it spits the air out. i was thinking of using boiling hot SimpleGreen and shooting that at my engine. steam clean. is it bad to boil that stuff?
