BR9ES in CB360

duggyb

where are the skis?
Any harm in this? I know the 9 is a colder plug just wondering if it will hurt. Bike seems to run much better on 9s vs the 8s

I am running mikuni vm30s. pods. Straight pipe 360 headers.

Thanks
Dustin

Sorry that is what I meant. Don't know why I typed hotter.

is your bike running hot ? is is getting pre-ignition with the 8's?

Not that I can tell. Also forgot to mention I have not set the timing with a light yet. Just the rest and I had it all apart. New points and such. Bike seems to run very very good with the 9s

9's may not last as long, they may carbon foul quicker, they may not keep hot enough to be "self cleaning" that is what heat range is all about
it certainally wont hurt it to run 9's
i always carry a new spare set of plugs on the bike and a toolkit ;)

Well I was messing around with my air/fuel settings today and fouled out the 8's and all I had around was a new set of 9s. Bike wouldn't even start with the fouled 8s threw the 9s in and ran fine. Are the plugs no good now? Sorry I don't know 4 strokes well. I know on sleds with plugs I just torch them and burn them off and reuse. I tried that with these and no luck.

Just out of curiosity you said BR9ES.

Are you running some form of a custom coil setup? Most bikes don't use R plugs as they are resistor type and most spark plug caps are 5ohm reistance already.

The bike had br8es in it when i bought it. I ran those for 3000 or so miles over 2 years never had any issues. So when i did the rebuild and switched carbs and such i just put new br8es in again. Then fouled those today and put br9es in because it's all i had at the shop. I don't think there is a custom coil setup. Looks stock to me. I am running a Kohler regulator and lithium battery if that matters.

What should I be running?

Thanks

I'll let other experts chime in but generally spark plug caps have built in resistors of which you run normal plugs ie B9ES. Running a resistive plug and a resistive cap could lead to bad things.

well i am going to go grab some new plugs from bike shop today now that they are open(yesterday was a holiday here in CAN)

going to grab some B8ES and B9ES. From what i read online though my bike shouldn't even barely run with BR series plugs if i had regular caps and coils?? is this true?

Thanks
Dustin

So just got back from the bike shop and they proceeded to tell me they can no longer get B8es or 9 or anything without a resistor built in. According to him the resistor won't impede performance at all. He said he runs BRs in old bikes all the time and it no longer matters.

Anyone else chime in on this?

EDIT...Also according to the NGK website he is correct http://www.ngksparkplugs.ca/results-motorcycles.cfm?model=empty&enginesize=360&make=HONDA&apptype=Motorcycle

Thanks in advance

i have been running the iridium 8 heat resistor type no issues (with resistor caps) but i am curious to know if there would be any pro con using straight connect caps

www.hondacb360.com has non-resistor caps. I also run the iridium plugs with resistors (NGK BR8EIX) and non-resistor caps with the Pamco E-advance ignition. I had no issue with the iridiums with resistor caps and points, switched to non-resistor caps with points, then the Pamco.

The reisitor caps varied from 5 k ohm to 10k ohm. So I suppose if you have 5 k ohm caps and 5 k ohm plugs, you are still close enough to stock to be ok.

That is total BS.
What they mean is 'we don't want to buy a box of spark plugs when your the only person who needs 2
There are plenty of parts suppliers who will have them available but they won't sell direct to public, easily available on eBay
BR8ES is fine if your using 5K plug caps, if you have 10K plug caps, you need B8ES
If bike runs better with a B9**, it's running hot
I have 2 boxes of B9ES plugs, I thought I would be needing them in the 378cc conversion, bike runs better with B8** when carbs are set right and foul B9's :(

I'm impressed with the local O'Reilly Autoparts, much better than Pep-Boys or Autozone.
They have people who actually know something about cars and not a bunch of teenagers trying to sell you fluffy dice and flashing lights (etc) ::)
