Re: Brat in the works

Update:

got taillight, signals, rear fender mounted today, motor is completely disassembled, painted, and honed. Waiting on some parts right now,
inside motor was really clean for 23000+ miles, mind you was some damage to one of the shift forks and gears (1st). Looks like they rubbed each other as shift fork has a big arc groove in it and side of the gear is worn. detent roller is fine, but neutral one is worn... would that cause 1st to wear as such? Gotta repair that... then assemble! Pretty much all that is left now is seat an electrical!

nice, man. how'd ya make the seat?
lol, i used a flat pan, cut down the original seat foam, then i used my old back seat out of my Duster and cut that up for the tuck and roll upholstery. Used rivets to attach it on the underside, can take a photo of the seat if you like

Re: Brat in the works CB500T

looks good. wish my seat cover was still intact.

any new updates?

Re: Brat in the works CB500T

Well shes closer to done now! lol a
Only thing holding me up now is to have someone else look at where i peened the cam chain myself just for peace of mind, and one of the lock nuts on the valve adjusters is stripped so i couldnt adjust the last valve. all thats left now is to see what room i have to mount all the electrical, wire it and give everything a final tightening/inspection!

Re: Brat in the works CB500T

that is a really slimed down look. makes me feel like my bike looks "busy". I'm sure the lack of carbs are adding to the visual effect, but still looks nice and light.

Re: Brat in the works CB500T

Heres one with the carbs: still have to do the rest, was away the weekend.

Re: Brat in the works CB500T

Sweet,

I like the seat and rear fender. Did you use textured paint on the rear wheel hub? It looks good, especially on a brat. Not digging the handlebars like that, but to each his own. Keep it comin. How is the exhaust noise, extra loud?! Did you throw in any type of baffle?

Great work man

Re: Brat in the works CB500T

Havent fired her up yet, still in the midst of wiring, maybe driving tomorrow night! wheels are powdercoated a silver vein hammertone. I dont like the bars either but they have to do until i can get some more $ for a newer set. exhaust is up in the air still, dunno what to do but it will be loud lol!

Re: Brat in the works CB500T

ive never liked a brat build so much. Its so minimalist. Theres an engine, a gas tank, a fat rear tire, and not much else. fuck yes.

I agree with your thought that the bars need to change.

I have no idea what direction you should go with either the bars or the exhaust.

cant wait to see it though.

Re: Brat in the works CB500T

Very nice.....
I just finished my brat style tracker. Black is classic. I added a couple of details not normally done with fabbing up a BMW-style rear mud guard, and a belly-pan to catch a potentially exploding motor....

Re: Brat in the works CB500T

i think it would look good with tracker/superbike bars. how did you mount the rear fender? r those short shocks? i have a cb450 that im planning but shes a runner so i havent done anything to it as of yet.
i just ride it.

Re: Brat in the works CB500T - update: DONE!!!! :D

Nice bike Greg! like that rear fender setup, its different! Well heres some finished photos of her after a few miles... still have to retorque the heads, shes a lil lean, so i ordered new jets today, other than that she runs like snot and louder than hell! I slide off the seat everytime I giv'er!!! lol

Thermo: yes they are shorty shocks and the rear fender i mounted by a piece of steel mounted across the frame where the old inner fender mounted and i welded tabs on the rear section so the signal lights are actually holding the fender in place in the rear... check my photos to see where the strip is in front...

Exhaust is straight pipes with chrome tips lol, talk about loud!

as for bars I am looking for something like a keystone bar for it... rear fender where it is is bottoming out in potholes, put a nice groove in the rear tire but its still driveable, had to take a mounting bolt out of the tailight to remedy that.
Also have a bad oil leak on the shift shaft. put a new seal on, but the shaft must be worn so i need to bush it somehow... anyways some more pics enjoy!

Anyways I'd like to thank everyone on the forum for the inspiration and ideas to get this one done! Its my first bike and the first one I ever built!
