It's interesting and awfully sad that opposing point of view can no longer be expressed and conversed upon without someone's bits getting bunched. What happened to the art of discourse?
For the record, I'm sorry you took my disagreeing with you as a personal attack, that is the one reason why I reworded my previous response. However, 'closed minded'? Please...I think all can agree that that's the domain of another web forum than this, if that's the best retort you can come up with when someone doesn't fall in line with what YOU insist....then perhaps some self examination is in order? Since this has tipped somewhat to the personal, I think it interesting that while you DO participate
here with minimal carping, you do seem willing to join the collective 'eye rollers' on "that other site", specifically toward DTT and the builds and tastes that come out of this joint. Duality sir?
Reread:
What a few people on this board are doing is to say - to heck with anyone else's definitions, we want to create bikes that don't meet any of those criteria and we want to call them cafe racers or any other term. And that's all fine, but it doesn't mean it's right. It just is what it is.
thinly veiled.....really. Look at your own subtext Teaz, I think if you're as open minded as you say you can hardly miss what's really being said here....
As to why Deus hasn't garnered it's own 'style'....perhaps it's because they haven't created anything that resonated (for whatever reason spins your gizmo) with anyone as deeply as one little shop in Japan. Personally I find Deus' et al to be glaringly derivative and thus, not worthy of any particular singularity. 'Johnny Come Lately' if you will. 'Also Ran'...if it suits you better.
As for driving hits fairly or not to
http://www.bratstyle.com/, why not? This shop did create the momentum if you will. Lots of little joints all over Japan turn out neat little bikes for bombing around the city, but this one shop rose juuuust high enough to get noticed and that's generally all it takes. Nobody would piss and moan about someone building a Dunstal style bike? Or a Seeley style or a Boardtrack style bike, et all...ad nauseum.
.....and I could care less about labels....
Hmm....seems quite the opposite actually.
But that brings us back to what the heck to call these particular abominations with fat wheels, no performance etc. Do we have so little imagination that we can't come up with a label other than to claim they are like the ones made by Mr Bratt in Kyoto. He simply followed a similar style to many others.
There must be a better name for the general bobber style, or should they all be classified as bobbers because they fit that description? Just because we say they are Cafe racers doesn't make them cafe racers now does it? Oh I forgot. That's exactly what the republicans have been doing for years, and it seems to work for them.
Seriously though - Neo bobbers. It has to be.
Really? Your position appears to be fairly fluid, do you work in politics? <it's humor folks>
This has been a somewhat entertaining joust, and for those who missed it...I'm feeling jousty today. Probably not enough coffee yet. But just the same, I think I'll continue to call these little rigs 'Brat Style'. It just works well, pays homage where homage is due and is nearly universally accepted....that is until someone comes up with something more compelling.
I miss 8th grade debate class........
