hey dtt
i broke this bolt when i was checking for leaks after installing my new head gasket on my honda 400 twin (cm400t)

is this the cam chain adjustment bolt?
if so does that mean my cam chain will be absurdly loose?
any experience in fixing it?

thanks

edit: it is in fact the tension bolt. still wondering what the consequences of breaking it are.

kinda figured that ;)

im wondering if i'm risking breaking something serious by riding it home from work today. and whether i'll need to replace my brand new headgasket when i crack it back open.

thanks

i'm ordering parts 7,11, and 13. but i'll be opening it up tonight. am i asking for trouble if i match the old pieces to some OTS nuts, bolts, and washers to get it back on the road sooner?

You don't need to take head off to replace that bolt.
All you need to do is remove cam and cam sprocket, it should pivot forward and lift out. (remove pin #6)
Probably rattles real good with it broken as it 'locks' cam chain tensioner in position.

thanks PJ. i hope that helps the next person who searches, cuz i tore back into it last night. i can strip it down to the cylinders in about an hour and a half now. that tension mechanism is actually pretty clever. i'm going to go the hardware store today and see if i can find something to replace it. it looks like it requires a 6mm bolt thread, with a head that can slide up and a down a 12 mm channel. the length should be such that it can be tightened but not over tightened so i'll try to match the length and get another acorn nut. if i can't find a perfect match, the local parts place said they can have it here by wednesday.

cheers guys
