Broken Part - Broken Heart

colab

Been Around the Block
I have brand new CB750 kill/starter switch I've been fussing with to get it to fit. I've had to grind an area for the clearance of the wires since the original bike had the wire going through the handlebar tube.

I've been taking off millimetre by millimetre to get it just right. It was almost fitting by I needed just one more pass. As I went over it one more time disaster struck.

Now I've got a hairline crack that's in a precarious spot. I'm afraid if I put it on and tighten it now the whole thing will fall off. And since this houses the throttle tube and cables I need the confidence that it's going to hold.

Needless to say I'm absolutely heartbroken. I've been trying for weeks to get on the road and this was the last mountain to climb.

Is there any way of treating this (epoxy, aluminum weld, etc) that will keep it intact? Anyone out there who is up for the ta$k?

I have dreams of riding this summer and I'm not giving up on them.

If the castings are the same I would try to find a junk/parts switch to buy that has a good bottom. There is probably someone on here that has what you need.

Cool. This is for a 1972. Do you have any in fairly clean shape that they'll go nicely if I paired it with the new top from this one?

i have one that is uncut
yours could be welded but overall it is more work to do that than to replace it and more expensive

I hear you. Thanks. I might be able to work with my old one if I can dig it up. If I can't find it do you mind if I PM you perhaps buy yours?

Much Thanks

Serious? Eh... There were 33839134842929394 of those units made. Im sure you can find one. Jeeez.

Hey Bert. Extremely sorry to have put you out.

This part as new old stock is, in fact, difficult to find for the '72.

At any rate, I certainly didn't mean to perturb you. Not everyone is an expert.
