burning out headlight

i've got a '75 cl360 with bare bones electrical but since i ditched most of the wiring i've burnt out my h4 halogen headlight. is there a resistor or something i need to put in to prevent this from happening?

thanks guys.

There are two white wires on the 360. One is for the headlight, and the other is unregulated AC voltage coming from the alternator. Make sure you hooked up the correct one. :)

And? Please report the cause and chosen method of repair for other members' future reference.

haven't gotten a chance to look at it yet.
but if the headlight power was coming direct from alternator then wouldn't the bulb not light up when the engine wasn't running? my headlight will turn on when the bike is off.
