Hey 904, amazingly you can still order the front brake cable for the 200 directly from any Honda dealer!! I know it sounds crazy, but that is where I got mine from and it comes in Black or Gray!!

Sweet thanks! Was it pricy coming from the dealer (stupid question but I gotta ask).

If I remember correctly I paid about $25 - $30 for the brake cable!! I thought it was a bit steep, but it comes with all new adjuster and locking bolts which is really good! I will look through my reciepts for the exact part number if you need it.

That would be awesome, specially if you went with the black one as I'm sure they are diff numbers and it seems that most of the time I have to hold their hand here at my local Honda when they order my stuff or they screw it up.

Hey just found my reciept from when I got the front brake cable. The Honda part number is 450450-383-671, let me know if you need anything else bro.

Cheers,
Kevin

Cool thanks! I'm gonna swing by Honda on Tuesday and order that. I got the Motion Pro tach and speedo cables on, they look real nice. I also got a clutch cable from them thats actually for a larger CB but it needs some modification to the threading on the case side. I know I can make it work though, just need some time to screw around with it.

Today however, I tackeled a few other things that were on my list...

Chopped the rear fender, still have to mount it more securely and drill some holes for the rear turns...

And... drilled some vent holes on the rear hub and started polishing it. Polished turned out ok (my first time) but I think I can make it look better with some more time.

whats up 904cafe
nice work.
my friend and i just bought a cb 200 for really cheap.
motor is seized up but have another on that is good.
we have a whole wack load of prts that came with it, two sets of shocks. and i am going use a set on my 175.
and was wondering if you could post some pics of you shocks, mounting etc.
the ones i have are eye and bushing top and bottom. and the ones on the good 200 are eye up top and fork and bolt on
the bottm, and are adjustable. has a colar that turns to adj.
any way just need to see how to mount them to my 175.
thanks.
later.

Are you planning on keeping your side covers when you are done?? I am trying to decide if I want to keep mine on my 200.. I think it looks a bit discheveled with the Battery and all sitting uncovered, but if you cover the battery then you dont get the tough look of the Pod filters!! Decisions Decisions!! anyway, bike looks great and thanks again for the help with the engine!!

I also have been torn between keeping my covers on or not. Actually right now I can't because of the CL pipes. But I did concider getting a left side cover off a CL (because they have the indentation for the pipes) and painting it silver to match mine. BUT... I don't want to spend a lot on something I'm not even sure I'll keep. Plus CL200's are super rare since they were only made ONE year! The only reason now I would want covers is for protection while riding in the rain.

GOOD LUCK w/ your build. I'd search around, $90 seems steep just to hone the cylinders (or is that to bore AND hone?). Even so, $90 is a bit steep. Also, when you take your head off, flip it upside down with some spark plugs still in it threaded tight and pour some acetone into the dome of the head (where the valve heads are) and check for leaks. The head should hold the acetone (atleast for a few hours) if you see bubbles or it disapates quickly you may need to get the valves relapped. The place that did my bore and hone also lapped my valves and put new valve stem seals in etc. etc.

It is $90 to bore/hone the cylinders so I guess it isnt too bad! Where did you take yours to be done? I had to call a local cycle shop to find someone locally to do it! I would consider shipping it off if I could find a good shop to do the job, but I would much rather have it done locally!

I will give that acetone thing a shot!! I am not exactly sure what you mean by it, but once I have the motor infront of me I will probably be able to figure it out rather easily!

Cheers

Ya shipping it would be too much of a pain. They need the pistons as well (or atleast that's best) so they can match the wall exactly to the pistons you have. The place I used is called Precision Crankshaft here in Jacksonville, FL. A guy I work with knows somebody who works there, so he cut me a price break. I got the cylinder bored and honed, the valves lapped and the valve spring assemblies insalled with new valve seals all for $80. The next place you go into, walk in their being super friendly, cary on a conversation with the guy, tell him about your cool vintage motorcycle project and he may just cut you a break.

So since the bike is down (waiting on the new Dyna coil), I have been taking care of a few other tasks at hand. I drilled out the rear hub (pics above), but new brake shoes in the rear, painted my rear sprocket cover black, chopped the rear fender (it's about 6" past the seat now) and got a side mount license bracket all hooked up.

On order is a nice little round vintage tail light I got off ebay and some LED tag bolts. I'll be putting the tail light on the fender, right up against the seat, so I needed something to light up the tag, think they will do nicely. Should look real good when I'm done. The tail light is almost a smaller version of my headlight just with a smoked red lense (black housing w/ chrome bezel).

Oh, AND... I purchased another front disc off ebay as well. Once it comes in I may find a worth machine shop around town to drill out the rotor. I feel like I'm nearly done! Maybe a seat eventually, but for now I'm content with the bench seat. A few other odds and ends. Still need a new front brake cable and prob a throttle cable as well.

Ill keep ya posted.

Finally some new updates...

Some of you may have read my thread in the 1-800 section... I was having problems with spark then with it running but I have all that sorted out for the most part...

Here are some pics of it's current state...

Your bike looks great, I have been following this thread, nice work. I don't even mind the stock seat with the bobbed rear fender, like the lights. I have always been a fan of that style tank also. I have been thinking on using one on my 125 racer. Pipes are really nice and it all looks very clean. Nice job!

Gotta do something about that huge license plate though. Can you curve it and use it as an extension on the rear fender or at least turn it vertical? Thats the only thing I would change.

904:

This really is one of the cooler bikes on this forum. Well done on that. I do think it could use a couple improvements...

I really like what SausageMahoney did with his seat. He used a stock seatpan and really shaved it down. Have you considered do this? Personally, I'd buy a ratty old seat, shave it down, have it recovered and call it a day. It really would complete the bike.

Also, MBS has a good suggestion. That license plate mount is...ummm. Well, if you get the shaved seat, the license plate can go right under the rear taillight--over the fender. In fact, I think I have an aluminum mount that might just work. PM me you address and I'll post it to you.

Just opinions.

Thanks guys!

As far as the license plate goes, I too am starting to sway from it. My original intent was to do a vertical plate but that is now illegal in the State of Florida! :p My buddy had this one lying around so I snatched it up. I may take and place it under the rear fender, as there isn't enough room on the actual fender directly under the tail light. I have some LED plate bolts on it now anyway so I don't have to worry about illuminating the plate w/ the tail light. Chris if you think the bracket you have will mount to the underside of my fender I may try that -or- I have some scrap steel sheeting laying around, that way I could just weld it to the underside of the fender, so no bolts or rivets are showing.

As far as the seat, I may just do that, I just gotta find a scrap seat. Mine is far to nice to attempt shaving.

More to come...

I'm digging the taillight and the bobbed rear fender. Subtle and great. What kind of taillight is that?

I got it off eBay... it's a replica 1933-1936 Ford tail light, it came with the smoked red glass and black housing. I'm really happy with the quality and the price was great too!

It's fairly bright for a regular filament bulb even though the glass is smoked, however I'll soon be going to something like this for a bulb...

http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-bin/store/commerce.cgi?product=CAR

About half way down this page they have an 1157 (dual intensity) socket with a plate of 36 white LED's on it. Just plug and play into the current bulb socket! I may add some refelctor tape to the inside of the tail light just to make it that much brighter!!! They have all kinds of LED's that just plug into factory sockets! The BRIGHTER the BETTER!

If you don't have the heart for it I'd bet Loco Leon would be proud to hack it up for you... ::)

...Or you could just find something worthy of the sawzall. Keep up the nice work, she's looking damn nice.

Which reminds me... Noel... the jacket is def getting some good use, the past few nights have been pretty chilly here in North Florida! I've been desperate enough to ride in the high 30's to mid 40's at night, which is damn cold for me, OK!? HaHa

I may mod up a new tag bracket for under the fender, I'll take some pics and see which way you guys like better.

Still need to tinker around with the carb adjustments a bit. It's still running a little rich at idle. But this will all have to wait because this weekend I'm moving into a new place! A house! Better yet a house with a garage! And even better, the garage is ALL Mine!!!
