New to the Cafe scene, been into the import scene since high school. So not new to turning wrenches but never got into bikes just because of the winters in Reno.

I am looking at getting a bike either this month or the next I found a few and wanted to get some input, or if anyone can chime in on other bikes that they would recommend would also be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advanced!

EDIT

Found this in the Sacramento craigslist it was only about an hour and half a way so called the guy and decided to head out.

After a 3 hour round trip I picked it up for $400 bucks, no title, no battery and it does fire up but it is missing a few things.

Can anyone shed some light on websites I can order carb kits and other parts as far as maintenance.

Re: Cafe newbie.. From Reno, NV... Help me choose a begginers bike!

Just got into cafe scene about a year ago. Had never worked on a bike before. Picked up a honda cb125 and a cb200. Great for learning to ride, easy to work on and a shitload of parts available. My 2 cents

I don't think the XT500 would make a good café bike (at least not without a lot of work) and the 360 is overpriced by about $1000. The XS looks like a decent bargain, prices for those have gone up quite a bit. Difficult to say if it's worth the price until you know what is wrong with it though. Also, it may be a bit of a big bike for a beginner.

I agree that th cb360 is way overpriced, especially if it needs new tires.

Re: Cafe newbie.. From Reno, NV... Help me choose a begginers bike!

Thanks for the input guys, I just found a CB450 for only $650 in Auburn. I called about but nobody answered. I was leaning on the 360 but was only going to offer $1500 I found a ton of bikes in California for way better prices.

The simple answer is the best, most complete and totally legal bike you can afford is the one to buy. Without a title or not running or someone else's unfinished dream are all nightmares and bottomless pits of time and cash.

Start with something not too large and have fun learning to ride. Buy decent gear - helmet, gloves and boots and get a decent jacket and maybe some kevlar jeans and enjoy the summer before it gets too hot.

Hey, I'm in Reno too, been into bikes and VW's my whole life here. Let me know if you need a hand. I've got people all over this town that could set you up with a bike on the cheap too. Head to PJ's on Wednesday nights and you'll get well acquainted with the moto scene here.

Re: Cafe newbie.. From Reno, NV... Help me choose a begginers bike!

the cb750 is a better all around bike, SOHC, etc.

The only negative, being a newbie to bikes, people will say that is is too heavy, etc. and the 400 would be a better choice.

My first bike was a 78 cb750f, and I felt comfortable on it.

You can make one hell of a cafe out of it!!!

I was leaning that way, I really am not worried about it being too heavy. I am 6' 220lbs.

then it being too heavy is no worry. you can handle it man. go with the cb if you got the dough.

how did that go?

I work 60 hours a week so I havent been able to go. I gave them a call but not answer yet. I just found this as well but I am skeptical about getting a replacement title.
