"Cafe Racer" such a loose term! Craigslist "Gem" of the week!

The question being whether it was worth the man hours to make something that does nothing well...? It is not even pretty. Dirt bikes are dirt bikes.

Well apparently it was worth the man hours to them. As far as the dirt bike=dirt bike argument, thats like saying cruisers are cruisers. Therefore, no one should ever cafe a gold wing, virago, or make a tracker out of a sportster. Please

here is an example of what is was could have been a super nice bike but they totally fucking molested it
at least the rider looks "aggressive" hahahahahahahaha

I'd change the bars and ride the hell out of it.

Nobody SHOULD café a Goldwing or a Virago. The world is full of many, many great foundations for a sporty, fun project... Neither of those qualify in my eyes. And a sportster is as sporty as a Harley gets.. And is the closest thing to an XR750 Harley makes for the street... So a tracker sportster is a good idea. It's like saying oval wheels are cool because they are different... I could spend all kinds of time making and mounting them, and I could think they are cool... But at the end of the day...... It would still be stupid.

Yes, it is.
Doesn't change the "death trap" status though.
And don't say "they didn't know better" back then

I never said I'd ride it... lol.

But the bike in your avatar is the king in my eyes.

I think the real issue is knowing right and wrong.
Knowing something is wrong and doing it anyway and knowing how to live with it is very different then some idiot doing something he thinks is okay and it is actually wrong....
I say that bette in person

I will always struggle with purposely doing something stupid. I do stupid crap all the time and regret it. But when building a bike, you have lots of time to figure out that what you're doing is stupid.

I do stupid crap all the time and don't regret it.

I snowboarded all last week, knowing it's stupid and I'd probably get hurt. Dislocated a shoulder and feel like I got hit by a train, but it was a blast and I don't regret a second.

Same with bikes, if you accept the stupidity of it and are doing it for fun while knowing the risks, it can be a blast.
2 stroke bobber for blasting down the local straight roads and popping wheelies? Sign me up.

2 stroke bobber is one thing,if its rideable carry on have fun
but the super low seat, that is just plain ignorant , there is no redeeming value, zero

Really nice looking '73 CB750 with some cool period upgrades, being sold by the original owner... But damn, $10,200.

Gold wings and viragos didn't qualify in my mind either. But builders who have done surprising things with them, and built functional bikes out of them have changed my mind. Props to those builders.

Wish more people would build cafe bikes like that now...
Not the stuff that is only good for a few artsy pictures.
