I see the relevance, just wouldn't own one. If I found one in a deceased relative's barn or garage, it would be gone as fast as I could sell it or part it out.
The "retro-mod" movement was getting big in the Seattle area when I was in the all brands/styles shop out there. I know what old mod stuff is worth whole and as parts (a lot more as parts). We sold an old Vespa from the original mod days, for big bucks, the buyer took off all the flash, binned it, and happily toted his non-running to be restored 100% stock scooter home. We got as much for the stuff he pulled and tossed as we'd gotten for the complete scooter.
As far as cafe racers... I've owned and ridden plenty of old British iron. T120Cs, Gold Stars, Thunderbolts, Ariels, neighbor had a Black Shadow and a Brough Superior. Stockers, choppers, trackers and cafe are all fine by me.
