"Cafe Racer" such a loose term! Craigslist "Gem" of the week!

So to be sure that I have it: Out there in the hustings there are a bunch of folks who need money, have an old motorcycle laying around, saw one article that said "Cafe racers are hot", and decided to build one. They ripped off a few parts, shed the front fender, sprayed the wheels flat black, bobbed the reah, and voila, instant cafe racer. Price went up 2000 on the junk they had to start with, and WE (ignorant bastids) are supposed to jump all over it. What have I missed? bj

Thankee kindly. I have built only 2 bikes from scratch in my life, both in the last 5 years. At age 76 with bad hips, I will probably ride them only once more and we will all retire. The kz took me 2 years, the Yammy a year plus. I KNOW what good work is and most of this stuff aint.bj

Can't help but wonder about these. And with a 150cc motor...

Not CL but fleabay, however a bike that had been poked fun at several pages back. It was listed for $13.5K, now it's on Ebay for $10k but as a $15k package with another bike. Still a ridiculously overpriced lump of shit that's bound to fail.

Anyone who lists something with a reserve price but the starting bid and BIN are only off by a penny is a total douche bag.
I sent a message asking what the reserve price is. ;D

Six coronas two spliffs and I just sent a message. It was a team effort.

"I don't even know what to say. Shame on you."

There are cafe bikes out there worth 15k plus. They don't get sold on ebay.

Okay, heres todays deal of the day: If you are a true RD350 fan get to the bank and pull the cash, point the hood north and go.
[edit] Ryan, you would point the hood South

Other than the concern of the carbs off and the pistons not in it, still not a bad deal for the start of a decent RD build.

With the exhaust manifolds off and this sitting outside lots of moisture has gotten into the motor its for sure going to need a complete tear down; crank rebuilt, bored, etc. I wouldn't pay that much for it.

Valid points, but I think id still have to take a look if it were closer =) doesn't seem bad, and if you could talk him down a bit, you may still be ok. Ive seen em sit and the crank still be ok (well not rd350's in particular, but two stroke sleds). depends on how long it sat out and where it sat out at.
