Cafe Racer TV: Mike Seate - What is he talking about?

I like the show, but...

"There's only about five guys left on this planet who can build aluminum cafe racer tanks, and three of them are in India."
-Mike Seate: Editor Cafe Racer Magazine

What?! Did anyone else catch this on the last episode? I've heard him say some questionable things, but that's just ignorant. I understand exaggerating statements on TV to help non-enthusiasts understand the difficulty of creating custom parts, but that's extremely untrue. We've all seen famous builders Bryan Fuller and Jesse James do it, and smaller craftsman like Roc City Cafe on here. There are countless talented craftsman capable of building aluminum cafe tanks. You can easily find a few at Metalmeet.com. He can't really believe that right?

Sorry, I had to rant to someone. On another note, thanks to Cafe Racer TV for showcasing something other than choppers.

Yea I heard it and just laughed out loud I only watch because its about bikes other then that there dunbasses
Hell all you need to do is look around here like " Johnus " or BradJ and many others to know hes full of shit !

Whether it's cars, vintage watches, guitars and even motorcycles, you have a guy who says something that may not apply to todays reality. There is an old fact that says "more people get killed by mules every year than (insert favorite death)", but reality is, it isn't any longer true. Harley's are old technology, American cars suck, Japanese bikes are the best, diesel's are loud, all British bikes leak. There may have been truth to this at some point, but probably isn't 100% accurate today. He has brought an old truth to the surface and maybe he believes this, but it isn't the reality of today. I agree with your point and he probably misspoke....

Wonder who the other 2 are???

Lets see.........I think i've made a few in the last 10 yrs or so.

Inside Mr Seate's small dream world, that's probably true. either that, or Junior, Brad, and a few others I've met are all from india.

I don't have cable at home any more. Watch shows like this and the car/hotrod shows in re-run at the gym no sound- I gotta say, they are much better this way!

He hasn't started hocking Street Trackers or Retro styled modern Ducatis yet? Figured he would've already chewed through the cafe "scene" and moved on by now? All in due time I suppose.

ADC nailed on the head. Even Seate knows there are more than 5 people on the planet who are making tanks. His point is however valid, in that metal forming had been a bit of a dying art, and much of the available product is sourced from overseas - be it Vietnam or India.

Thankfully we know all the right people around here to get our Made in USA hand formed metal from :)

Just goes to show, there are a lot of awful cafe Seates out there

No - he knows NOTHING about the history of Cafe Racers and I've lost count of the stupid remarks he comes out with.

What "old truth" ???? Back in the day there were probably 100s of artisan tin bashers capable of banging out alloy tanks. I personally know of 9 current [ that's PERSONALLY know, not his brother said his aunties nephew might have told me ] and THREE [ UK Midlands ] that have made tanks for me in the past 5 years. And back in the 60's there were dozens just in our locality.

You only have to look around this forum to see evidence of today's craftsmen - on both sides of the pond.

I have watched the last two series of Cafe Racer with the sound turned off so as not to hear his terminal inexactitudes when it comes to Cafe Racers.

I'm pretty sure unity gets their tanks made in India...

Chill people. Its cafe racer tv. You know where CB350s cruise at 125 all day. 450s will shatter any dyno they're hooked up to and any heap of shit can be made to handle better than a Norton featherbed. All it takes is a big hammer and an Harbor Freight angle grinder.
