nice job Noel! looks good. i was thinkin about the blue camping mat from can tire too, but the stuff you have is beefier, me likes!

speakin of padding, does anyone know about that thick, dense, gel like pad you can also use? i remember seing them at the new years show, you just cut out a square chunk out of your stock seat and replace it with the stuff, feels amazing i hear.

Found on the Bay

hey noel, man can you post up some better pictures of your finished seat? particularly the cowl part and its cover.

Leon,

Could you show more detail or expand on using the existing seat cover, specifically how how made/attached the transition from seat bottom to backrest/hump?

Thanks!

hey Magikphun,

Regarding the seat cover, I just had a local leather guy transform the OEM seat cover to fit the new seat & cowl.
To attach the newly modified seat cover to stay on the cowl, I had him sew velcro to the back and used self-adhesive velcro to the cowl side.

Infact the entire cover is attached to the seat pan w. velcro.

I hope that helps.

The seat looks good, I like the idea of cutting off the back off a tank for the hump, I eyeballed a Sportster tank for a project myself. You could have taken this a step further and possibly made a few bucks too - take a mold off the steel seat you made and reproduce it in fiberglass. Lighter weight and you could probably sell a few. Something to consider.

good job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!padding can be purchased from an industrial gasket supplier.Black high density foam and glued with a quality contact cement,I used 3\4 inch($12.00@SQ.FT),,,,,,,,,,,and with no leather!!!(hard on the cajones)

Hey i told you i was going to use the idea you had i am in the beginning stages i really do not think it will take me long to get my seat together. The pic you see is a trial fit before cleaning the seat pan, sanding, and paint.

WOW.. looks much better now!!..
Are you gonna weld the cowl on or use bolts to mount it?
Are you planning to cut out the bottom of the cowl?

i was looking at it last night and will make a decision soon....most likely will be some welding somewhere and i will either cut the bottom out or weld a flat piece across the the bottom for more contact....heck i may even bolt it also for extra rigidity...will decide by tonight.

Just used a copped back end of a cb550k tank and stock cb750f seat pan...
Basically the same principle as from this thread:

Ugly huh?... notice the spot welds?

After a few hours of sanding w. paper, dremel & other tools w/ some old primer laying around.

Slapped on the bike for now, until I'm ready to put the leather and foam together.

The rear turn signals are going to the garbage... I got a taillight from an old zx6r, wired to have integrated tail/stop and turn signals all in one that will fit perfect into the rear gap of the cowl. ;D

What a difference from this:

I like the idea of the zx6 integrated light i am leaning toward that also...maybe even LED style
