calling honda twin experts: cl450/350 pipes on other models

Hey guys, been trying to figure this out, but maybe i'm looking in the wrong places:
how interchangeable are the header pipes from the small twin engines?

for example: let's say i wonder if cl450 or cl350 headers will bolt up to my 395 on my cm400

i've seen plenty of these pipes on cb450's.

additionally, anyone ever tried flipping the pipes to exit on the right side, i'm having a real brainfart on this one. ask me to visualize dynamic motions in a protein molecue, no problem. but today i can't wrap my head around the bends in these pipes.

my instincts tell me, i would need mirror image pipes, but i wonder if anyone has physically tried

cheers

I have a CL450. Yup, you would need mirror image pipes to get them going to the right. I would be willing to pop a header off and take a picture if that would help. measurments too.

thanks diesel

damms about the mirror image

well, i would be curious to know the spacing between the two headers and the diameter of the pipes when you have the time to take measurements

anyone tried this before?

Check out this guys site for custom exhaust. He specializes in Yamaha xs650s but he might be able to do something for you. His prices are really reasonable compared to others I've seen.

Curious, why do you want it to go down the right side? You can pick up a set of these exhaust pretty readily at okay money.

is there a link missing here?

i was just toying with the idea of right side high pipes for the rarity of it. maybe other custom bikes that i'm not up on do this, but i haven't seen very many on DTT

The newer Triumph Scramblers have right side high pipes...whether the geometry is right to be fitted to an old Honda twin is unknown to me...but if they at a match, I'm sure that replacement headers for that model would be the easiest (although maybe most expensive) solution.
