I've got a set of wheels from a '80 GS450S on my '80 GN400 which I wrapped with IRC 3.00x18 on the front and 3.50x18 on the rear. They aren't the widest but they give me that '80's look I like.
Avon RoadRiders are about the best common choice for the skinny rim small twins of any Japanese make. Glad to see you veered away from the retro treads and their 45 year old outdated technology. A racer looking bike is meant to be ridden aggressively! Retro tires like those Firestone are good for cruising to the bar or bike show etc on...
Bridgestone BT39SS Battlax are the only real serious sports tires (basically nearly a race compound) for these bikes. They are $$$!!!
Avon AM26 RR's are good cornering tires that wear very well. Can't go wrong unless you burn through corners like a maniac bat outta hell like this guy... they're good for pretty sporty riding though. Glad it worked out for ya, congrats!
I've got a GS450E/S "Sport" tank like that for my GS425 (& for a GS550 future project) & GS400 Giuliari seat... going to be building a retro racer for canyon carving and possible WERA Formula 500 vintage racing. 489cc re-sleeved big bore GS425.
