I need to do a top end rebuild of a ‘73 Yamaha TX500. 75 psi in the left cylinder and 150 in the right. I need to locate a reasonably priced cam chain link. Any help is appreciated.
EBay. The TX500 only had a two year production run due to engine problems. Yamaha quickly tired of warranty repairs and scrapped all the remaining inventory of bikes and parts. However, the same part may have been used in other Yamaha products. I've had pretty good luck searching by part number.
I looked on line and see some outrageous prices for that link. Do you know the width of the chain? Most bikes of that era used a 219 chain which came in various different pin thickness and side plate thickness, so they used different connecting links. We used chains from an SR500 in most of our motors. I have no idea of the length or your chain (number of links or of the chain dimensions, but see if you can find an alternative chain. Looks like your bike has a heavy duty 219 chain from crank to idler and lighter 219 chain to the cams.
The XS500 I looked at a few years ago had a duplex cam chain but I think it was 219 pin spacing?
Back in the early 80's, I remember my cousins husband bought every one he could find locally for parts, had one runner and another four or five to keep it running
