the pictures were taken in 1968, it looks like a small honda parallel twin, very overloaded. and were taken during a cross country trip that was the basis of one of the most important books of the 20th century. extra points if you can name the man in the picture and or the book that was written.

wow that was fast, some well read ppl out there, thanks. I'm actually re-reading the book right now and have always wondered what bike he rode on his journey. one of the few books i have read multiple times and still enjoy and get something new out of it each time.

Identifing the bikes is nice, but, on a more personal level, WON' T THAT SELF INDULGENT NARCISSTIC "ZEN" CRAP EVER GO AWAY!!!!! Now that's off my chest and I feel so much better. "Shop Class as Soulcraft" by Mathew Crawford is a far surperior book.

I feel the same way haha. My dad loves that book but i couldnt get into it. I read it once, it was cool on the parts where hes describing just riding the bike and meeting people, but the parts with his kid drove me nuts, that kid is a whiner. Also the whole dream thing thats actually reality or whatever was supposed to be going on drove me nuts. The whole book reminded me of dating a first year psych student.
