so in the process of getting the mistress ready to flog once again, i pulled the plug wire on the left side to check on spark strength ( i have a nifty tool for this, its an inline tester that shows the spark while the bike is running). spark is a bit weak but my battery is a bit low so i expect this, I pull the plug wire on the right side and the bike dies. I check for spark with my nifty tool and i get the same result spark is there but a bit weak. now full disclosure the vacuum adapter screw fell out of the carb last week, but bike seems to have been running fine without it. i blocked it with my finger and didnt notice any change in the engine sound. could it be as simple as that? I pulled the carbs and cleaned them a couple of weeks ago. and they weren't that dirty to begin with. so I'm throwing this out to the collective wisdom of the group, any ideas?

a weak spark outside of the motor is an even weaker spark inside it. its electrics if it dies when you pull the plug.

i say you need a new set of coils... anything will be better then 36 year old stuff.

Duh, not quite ::)

'( i have a nifty tool for this, its an inline tester that shows the spark while the bike is running)'

If its running it has to spark under compression.
I'll get vacuum plug in mail in morning, will let you know when fork brace is done
