Molds should not be resin heavy. That makes them more brittle. There is a ratio of resin to glass.

For my molds, I use a 2 oz chopped strand mat, typically 4-5 layers. It rings in right about .035 before saturation. You should saturate your glass, but remove any excess resin.

One more question. I'll be using chopped mat for the mold, should I let each layer tack up a bit before adding the next layer and so on, or can I just do them all one after the other keeping it wet?

You can knock them out all at once if you are using unwaxed resin.
