The man can only be described as a legend. What he achieved against the mighty factories of Italy and Germany will be talked about and admired forever.

For me.the AC Cobra is the best looking car of all time bar none ! If I was ever fortunate enough to win the lottery, I would drive past all the Italian super car show rooms on my way to the Cobra shop.

RIP Mr Shelby, your achievements are immortal.

Well put Titan.
I had the privilege of meeting/talking with him a few times. He was the real deal. 8)

I make no excuses for crashing another commemoration thread ........I feel real pain at his passing.

Here's Carroll - away from the public and press - shooting the breeze with like minded folk.

This Le Mans story will be part of a future "Beachcomber's Tales from the Day", so I won't waste too much time here.

I arranged for Shelby to attend the 1994 Le Mans on the occassion of the 35th. Anniversary of his outright win with Roy Salvadori ] in the Aston, AND his championship year.

Story too long to elaborate here, but here's our base for the RAM Bardahl series Race Cobras which were used by various motoring greats during the event [ Including Bob Bondurant and Pete Brock ] and for the pre-race cavalcade laps. The French company ATS had arranged for a luxurious hospitality vehicle and motor homes for Shelby and his pals but he spent most of the time with "the boys" in our little camp just chilling - oh yes and Mrs.B introduced him [ and the others] to Pernod.....what an evening that was, in fact what a fabulous week.
