CB 200t Questions

Well, I've been given the oppertunity to purchase a 75' Honda CB200t, after having my eye on the CB 160/175 I'd assume that the 200 would be a bit of a bigger bike, but from what I've researched it seems to be running slower than the 175? I'm not looking to go fast as I am a new rider, and this would be an in-city bike, but I'm worried that it wont have the power to accelerate quickly out of sticky situations, is there a reason that people report the 175 with a higher top speed? The frame is the same, and I'm assuming that the motor is the same design just bored out slightly larger, does it have a different set of sprockets or cams that would result in this? Are there options available to me, or would eventually just dropping a new engine in be a better solution, and on that note, does anyone know what the largest displacement engine will fit relatively easily into the frame?

You could always get a different cam from Megacycle cams, but stick to the road/track one and stay away for race cams that make the bike slower. Compression is fairly low and the carbs are smaller than on a CB160 but that's not a major issue. We built a very fast 205cc CB160 with stock carbs and a mild cam. Little pocket rocket.

They are great little bikes but not very powerful. I wouldn't consider putting anything else in that chassis.

All 3 sizes run 41mm stroke crank but the 200 has different primary gear splines and longer rod s so they are not completely interchangeable.

CB160 has 50mm pistons and small ports
CB175 has 52mm pistons, bigger valves and larger combustion chamber plus 5 speeds
CB200 is 55.5mm bores, same valves as the 175s, same carbs as later 175's IIIRC and slightly different gear ratios plus more fins on the 10mm taller motor.

If the bike is clean and runs OK, I'd run the snot out of it for what's left of the riding season and look at a few minor upgrades over the winter if you feel that they are needed.

If you have surplus funds burning a hole in a pocket, we can build you a barn stormer of a motor with big carbs and high compression and bumpy cams etc, but i'd just ride it first and see what you think. They are cute bikes with no vices. At least they should be. ::)

And if anyone has any larger bore high comp pistons for that motor I'd like to hear about them. We can get up to 240cc out of one but I'd like more piston options.

Yeah, I was looking at the cam from megacycle cams, the non race one, but is there any reason that the CB200 has a slower top speed listed than the CB 175? I'm looking for something that can at least take me on the highway for short trips, as there are a lot of highways here and getting off at an exit 5 minutes after you got on the highway would take you a lot farther than using regular roads, but with the top speed being 77mph/124kph, which in reality would be slower as that would be the very end of the life of this bike, you gotta wonder why the smaller displacement bikes are faster. Would changing out the cams bring it up to speed? I'm just having trouble understanding what on the bike would make it slower than a CB 175, when they weigh very similarly and have the same valves and bigger bores.
