i do have a 550 engine, never did anything with it because the pistons are rusted to the cylinders, but the head is in good shape if you need it, would be cheaper to ship the head than the engine anyway but its yours for shipping $

wouldnt he need the case too? If the chain broke Id imagine it would end up in the case, ruining everything it came into contact with..

Thanks to everyone who offered up replacement engines at amazing prices...sometimes free! Made me feel warm and fuzzy inside.

I did end up getting one and Tony has it at the moment. I also have all the seals and o-rings you can shake a wrench at. What I really need now is a replacement cam chain. I'm specifically looking for one with a master link, not a continuous link. I've called Western Hills Honda but they're out.

Does anyone have any hot leads on where to find one?

The 550 parts manual specifies an endless chain. Suggestion: if the 550 chain is a 219, you can splice in a joint link (not a master since it can only be installed once) from a CB450, part # 14410-283-000, JOINT CAM CHAIN (DK219) (Honda Code 0075069). I take it you don't want to split the crankcase to install your camchain.

Yep - that's what I did with my CB550 cam chain - used a master link from a CB450.

Well folks, it's been many moons since I originally posted this thread. I got word that it's going to be done TODAY. Holy fawkles.

Dusting off my helmet at the moment. Using my last streetcar token. Tossing my pedal bike onto the road.
