cb gas cap latch mechanism

fugue

Been Around the Block
I am in need of a new gas cap latch mechanism for the cb350 tank. The one on the bike is busted (amazing how an itsy bitsy teeny weenie little piece of broken metal - 1 cubic mm in size can stop things from working right).

If you have a line on one or on a cheap tank... lemme know.

Is it the one with the key or the flip lever? The 73 came with the key latch but the flip works too.

It has a key - I don't have a key for it, but it fits exactly a 4.5 mm hex socket, and it's a twist to the right to open it. And there's a spring loaded cover for the key hole. I'll try and take a pic if I get out to the garage today. But I'll use any latch type as long as it works.

Edit: The cap itself is a flip cap - pivots towards the front of the tank. The tank looks like a ('72) K4 tank, by the paint scheme.

Edit 2: Finally got around to taking a couple pics in the garage. First shot is of the tank, and the second is of the latch mechanism (already removed).

I can tell you that's not a cap and latch from a CB350. My latch may or may not fit. If it doesn't then you'll need a new set. Let me see if I have any spares.

Why don tyou put a bigger cb450 tank on it.
Even better, a cb450 K1 tank with the chrome panels??!!...

I think Saucer may have a spare one that he might be looking to sell!!
That would look insane!!

That is a cool tank and coincidentally I'm using one for my next CB350 build. I can tell you it's not a direct fit, lots of modification. Fugue, I suggest you use the original tank for now and just try to get the bike running. Then decide what parts to swap or else you may get bogged down from all the problems of making other parts fit.

Yes, that is my target DrJ. I am going to get the bike running right before I start any of the cosmetic stuff (there is going to be a LOT of cosmetic stuff). I think the only thing I will change early is a set of bars since I think I need completely new cables anyway.

Looked for it on Saturday but came up empty. I thought I had a spare. I'm going to dig deeper this weekend.

Cool... found an ebay seller willing to take a cap/lock/key ass'y off his dented tank that didn't sell. Depending on how much he wants for it. We shall see.

BTW you're right, the actual cap is totally not off a 350. It even has a float hanging off the inside on a chain from the cap.
