CB100 Tracker

Coast to Coast
Ok, so I did start a build thread in the Cafe section earlier, but after looking into things, I thought it would be a much better tracker project. Just to start this thread, here is a picture of the roller:

I cleaned up the front end, cleaned and checked the front brakes, and painted the forks. Then I started to think about what I really wanted to do for an engine. I wanted to go with a YZ125 motor, but ruled that out because it's liquid cooled and much better for off road riding. So I found a 1975 DT175 nearby and bought it. It is complete and had everything (and more) that I needed. I've installed the engine with just a little modification, and installed the rear wheel on the CB since it has a wider rim and both have the same axle size. I'm also thinking about installing the front rim off a spare GT180 wheel to the front wheel of the CB (I believe they have the same amount of spokes). That way I can run a wider tire in the front, too. I don't want rediculously wide tires, but I do want them to be the same size. I also installed the Suzuki tank (again with some mounting modifications) and I'll utilitze the DT's seat since it is in perfect condition.
I think I'm going to install the wiring loom from the DT and have a battery. I didn't want to do that originally, but the oil tank is in really good condition and has the battery tray connected to it. I know a picture is worth a thousand words, but I left the camera at work, so no pictures till Monday.

I do have a question though. Has anybody ever ordered or know where I can find a 6V streetfighter headlight?

Shitty cell phone pics. As I said earlier, DT175 engine, GT380 exhaust, DT seat, DT rear wheel, CB front wheel (going to have a GT380 rim), DT controls and DT rear shocks.

Only problem I see right now is that the carb sits right behind the frame. I will probably have to use a 45 degree pipe or something to aim it off to the side. This is uncharted territory for me, we'll see how it goes.

Thanks buddy, good to see someone is following along ;) I mounted the brake light and made a license plate holder and bolted it to the rear fender, then mounted the rear fender and the seat to the bike. I also striped the wiring loom off the Yamaha and installed it on the frankenstein bike. Stopped at the battery store on the way home and got a 6V 4.2 AH sealed battery for $14. This is double the AH of the original, but it was smaller in size, and cheaper. Tomorrow I'll clean up the oil resevoir/battery tray and mount it to the bike.

You have my interest. Not sure about where to get a 6v Streetfighter headlight, you may have to buy 12v and find 6v lamps to fit. It seems lots of halogen stuff has P43T fittings and you can get them down to 35/35w in a 6v. Oh and I am a novice so be careful if I give you any advice.

Hi Scott! Eric here. This is quite the mix of parts! I was gonna call it a Yamahonda but I see a Suzuk in the mix too! Should be interesting to see how it progresses. You have a lot of confidence to be able to mix parts that aren't supposed to fit together! Nice to see it rolling around! It should fly nicely with that two stroke smoker!

Jim,
Thanks for the info. I did however decide last night that I will use a headlight and bucket to hide all the wire connections.

Eric,
Yes, I have a little of everything on here. I can't wait to see how this thing runs when it's done. I'm looking forward to poppin wheelies with this thing ;) How is your project coming? Last time I talked with you, you figured out the ground issue.

Yes, it runs now! See my link in my signature for a video. I have a noisy camchain though. But now that it runs, I'll be tidying up the electric (battery tray, etc.), mounting my own built LED tail/brake light, rear brake sw, rear rack, speedo, tach and front headlight.

Re: CB100 Tracker -Frankenstein

Here is the rear hoop and brake light I came up with. I took it (the hoop) off the donor bike and made it work on Frankenstein. Also made a battery tray out of a CB200 tray I had laying around. No pic of that yet cause I was too lazy to take the seat off ;)

Just wanted to give a quick update since it's been awhile. I made and mounted the battery tray under the seat, welded up the exhaust and made a hanger for it, cut rear fender to fit properly, made mounts for seat, installed wiring, installed rear wheel with a home made spacer, installed new headlight ears and headlight bucket and made front engine mounts. Trying to figure out tires now since I have a bunch of spare ones. Still have to deal with the carb issue, but I do have an idea (thats coming later). I want to finish painting the tank tomorrow and install an inline fuse. No new pics, just my boring writting ;)

Just writting something so this doesn't get lost. Have made alot of progress, and I'll prove it tomorrow with pics.

very interesting, is that the final pipe? looks a little dented? keep the updates coming ;)

Interesting it is ;) The pipe is a spare from my GT380. It actually is not dented, but has detents from the factory. Not sure if it actually will work, but it is a 2 stroke pipe, so we'll see. Once phone is charged, I'll post some more pics.

It should be fine if there were 3 mufflers for the GT380. Then each muffler/cylinder is about 126cc.

Thanks Eric. I would think it would, too.
Here are a few pics of the before and after of the shocks. The springs were too far rusted, so I replaced them with some CB350 ones I had laying around.

Also, I retro fitted the chainguard to fit. It was very close, but needed the front bolt hole to be widened just a little. It's from a CB200, and so is the centerstand.
Had a guy at work come in the shop and he laughed at me for my paint job on the tank. So I asked if he could do better, and he said yes, I said prove it and now he's going to. He use to be an auto painter, so it should probably turn out pretty good.
Thats all the pics I have, I got really sick at work today, and that was the last thing on my mind. Just have to wait till Monday.

Top banana. Gonna be an interesting ride ...... probably a mercy that you didn't find a YZ lump!
