CB175 - code name: The Swift

Coast to Coast
I've been working on the 360 for well voer a year now and that will continue as soon as I figure out what to do with him. On top of that the lady of the house decided to get into riding after hitting barber with me this year (Hells Yes!) so we are now in a scramble to get her a bike up and going before the season starts. We found a CB175 that I am trading a camera for. The motor ran last summer (sure it did, sure it did) and of course has "great compression". I think these guys have great compression of hot air coming out of their mouths. Either way, we are picking this guy up tonight and it seems only fitting to build the misses an airplane referenced bike since she flies jets for a living. I'm calling this build "The Swift" and hopefully I can do it right and not make it look, how you say, fucking stupid? Here is the bike currently.

Nice. You should take a cue from some of CCRider's work. If you need to make anything for it, make it from aluminum sheet and rivet the parts together. Will definitely give you an aircraft feel.

Great starting point homey. Keep us posted, and like I said yesterday, I may have useable bits if you need them. Just say the word.

Yes! Aluminium and rivets throughout would be a great aircraft theme, without it looking too 'out there' and 'OCC-ish'.

Going to be keeping an eye on this.

I want to avoid the bike being a theme build at all costs. I hate theme bikes and OCC for that matter. I just want it to tip its hat to the aircraft and be inspired by it. I don't need her looking like a clown.

Right, not "theme" but raw aluminum, rivits etc will give the feel, think about guages and meters as well looking like aviation grade stuff, it definately has a cool factor. I have flown back in my youth, almost became a pilot, and riding is the closest thing you can get to the feeling of flight without actually leaving the ground. Very cool. Tank looks clean so hope the insides of the motor look as good, or even better that compression is good an you don't have to open the motor at all.

Yeah, maybe theme was the wrong word....aircraft inspired, not emulating.

Like this. It looks like it should be on a plane, but it is just the coils bracket.

Eh... I'm thinking all you'd like to accomplish stylistically could be dome with paint and well thought out finishes.

Exactly the kind of stuff I'm talking about. Things that are great looking on the bike but you wouldn't really make the connection unless someone said yeah, I used a swift plane as inspiration.

You should put a horizon dial thingy-ma-jiggy(have no idea its real name)on there.. in between tach and speedo. THAT would be neat!

Artificial horizon would be cool, you could use it like a lean angle indicator almost ;D Might be a bit Themed but still might be cool. Although I bet that would be expensive, most airplane bits are.

That is a really kick ass idea! I might know a girl who can get me some airplane bits on the cheap :)

Ya need to get her signed up here. This place could use a few more ladies to keep us idiots in check.

Airplane junk yard would be a good place to stroll around just for inspiration. Bring a camera and a notepad for parts and ideas. That is if you have a junkyard neat you. Would be a nice trip for you and your lady to ride and go visit on if it's reasonably close.
