CB250n Brat/Tracker our first build

Looks like you were lucky with a dent free tank. What colour are you going for? and dont forget to book you MOT, unless your lucky and your MOT garage will let you turn up on the day without prebooking.

Yes the tank was pretty good, I just had a to put a final skim of filer over a couple of old repairs. The way I strip the tank leaves old filler intact. I just lay rags over it and soak in thinners every half hour, most of the old paint just scrapes away with a plastic spreader. Colour wise I am going with a Toyota colour I put on the brake calliper with a silver stripe and lettering. Hoping to book the mot for later in the week but have an issue with the lights, indictors and horn not working at the moment.
Oh and the small issue that I haven't had her running yet :p

I'd leave the indicators till last as you dont have to have them, just remove the lever in switch and your good, unless you have a good mot guy who will pass it with the switch in place. Or if your really tight for time go far a daylight mot.

Thanks, for the advise, I may do that, I am checking right through all the connectors tomorrow and will be putting the pipes back on.

Spent all day Sunday in the cave. Very productive solved the problem with the electrics, cleaned and checked every connector on the loom and then found all the soldered joints in the left hand control had failed.

Now lets see if she will run...........

So the exhaust goes back on, new Iridium plugs fitted and temporary fuel supply sorted. Turned her over for about 5 minutes NOTHING, went and had a cup of tee. Came back and tried again, she's alive.
Cant get her to tick over without using the throttle and the right hand cylinder seems to be getting hotter than the left but boy am I happy

Collecting the tyres tomorrow, and expecting the rear lamp, fuel tap. Still waiting on the clutch cable and some odds n sods.
Tank graphics organised but cant finish the paintwork without them.
Disappointed that my self inflicted deadline for this Sunday is now impossible as the log book looks like being another couple of weeks
Still plan to get her road legal this weekend but without the log book we cant get the road tax.

Parcels arrived today and new Metzeler tyres fitted. Also sorted the indicator warning bulb with a couple of diodes.

MetzelerMe 77 rear, they work great
Didn't like the matching front so much for some reason so used Continental RB112

I haven't tried mixing brands front and rear before so just played safe and I like Metzelers, always worked for me in my youth on my motor X bikes.

I always used Mezeler front MX tyre, it just gripped better than anything else, enough to tear the blocks off sometimes.
Rears never lasted very long so I mostly used whatever worked and was cheap (Maico 490, 63bhp, 128mph  )

Maico where a nice ride back in the day. My last MX bike was a 370 Bultaco back in 1978 but my favourites where my Rickman Zundap 100cc and best was my KX125. It was the 1st bike I did mods on, we increased the angle on the rear shocks and put truck valves in the top of the front forks. Great days.

Friend had a Rickman Zundap 125 Enduro, quick bike for its day
Main 'problem' with the Maico, it was just too easy to ride, then would try to 'bite you head off' ;D
Almost 130mph on a forestry fire break scared me enough to gear it to max of 90~95mph
Probably best fun rides I had were at Cyfarthfa Park (nr Merthyr Tydfil) and Stepaside down west Wales (1976 125 World Championship track)
Cyfarthfa is an art museum now so I doubt they let hooligans on motybikes ride around there ;)

I furthest west I raced was British Schoolboy Finals at Vinegar Hill near Stroud in 75, only completed 2 laps in practice and my 125 Aspez siezed. I was offered the loan of a kawasaki but the organisers wouldn't alow it. That was the end of my day but we went home with the KX in the back of the van. My favourite track was Golding Barn near Brighton, masive hills and long sweeping bends, owned by the Beamish (Suzuki) family.

I bought a tailight that looks exactly like that one but fabbed the bracket for it on my own. I keep seeing people saying they're using diodes. I'm kinda new to this, so what are diodes used for and how do I know whether I need them or not?

When we fitted the LED indicators all four flashed like hazard lamps. The reason for this is both sides where conected to one warning bulb on the control panel. My understanding is that the LED's draw such a small current that it jumps across from one side to the other. As the current can only flow one way through a diode it stops it jumping across.
The warning bulb had a single earth and a live feed comming from each side. All we did was put a diode on each of these feeds.

I have probably got the explanation totaly wrong ::) but it works :)

Not bad for an ex panel beater eh.................. Anyway back to the build, re-fitted the wheels and a nice new sprocket this evening.
Also did the mods to the rear mudguard ready for painting on Saturday. The to do list is finally looking manageable.

I sorted out the new location for the ignition switch and started the paintwork on the tank today.
Tomorrow I should get it completed.

I got the paintwork completed on Saturday and spent most of Sunday at The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride.
As expected my little H100 was the lowest tec bike there, great day out.
Still managed a couple of hours in the shed, fitted mudguards, rear lamp and striped the loom to re-position the ignition switch.
