Hey guys... Starting a new thread for my 1971 CB350 Twin Honda Build.
I've been working on this build for 3+ years in my spare time, which there isn't alot of. Other delays have been due to getting my powder coating back from the person who I sent it to, who had it for 15+ months.... I also had the frame at a shop to be modified to accept the Yamaha RD tank. It sat at that shop for almost a year before I went and reposessed it and had it done elsewhere....
The project started out as a package of 2 cb350's and a cb360 that were purchased from underneath someone's back porch for $175. They had been there for years and were covered in plants growth, mud, dirt, rust and wasps nests... the tanks, guages and almost all electrical stuff was complete garbage. The bikes were in various stages of tear down when parked, so one motor was locked up. I sold the 360 and found another 350 parts bike just to have enough pieces to make 1 complete bike.
Wheels: Stock hubs, vintage shouldered aluminum rims, powder coated gloss black. Hubs were powder coated gloss black, aluminum was hand polished. Stainless steel spokes by Buchanans. Tires are new Bridgestones. Wheels were assembled and trued by Cyclops in Merriam, KS.
Front suspension: Stock, new fork seals, powder coated fork covers, stock headlight. Bottom triple tree was blasted and painted with the gun-metal grey hammerkote. Top Triple tree was polished. Powder coated black fork bolts, powder coated black handlebar clamps. Black drag bars with NOS handlebar switches with wires run internally. Vintage grips.
Tank: The tank is from a 1976 Yamaha RD400. I searched a long time for a gas tank i liked that would fit the frame. I found this tank hanging from a barn rafter at a cycle grave yard in Oklahoma City. Tank was pretty dented up, but not rusted too bad. Tank was taken to a muffler shop, boiled out and lined with an epoxy liner. Took some time to get the bodywork ok and make all the dents and dings disappear. I painted it myself with Duplicolor rattle cans. I plan to have the tank professionally painted at a later date, but it's ok for now. New gas cap and petcock.
Seat: Cut down the stock seat pan, and had an upholstery shop finish it up. Seat cost me $150, but they did a really nice job.
Rear suspension: New shocks, new rubber bushing in swingarm, and rear wheel. Swingarm was blasted and painted with the gun-metal grey hammerkote. Had a black powdercoated swingarm, but it was just too much black for my liking. Tail light is a stock piece from a 68. Smaller than later model 350's. Brake light bracket was powdercoated, and the plastic was polished and cleaned up. Looks like new.
All of the other brackets and bits have been powdercoated or polished. New kickstand springs. Brake stabilizer bar powdercoated.
Brakes were re-lined with modern brake compounds, hubs turned and radius matched to the brake pads by Casper Brake and Clutch in KC.
Engine is coming back together. Rebuilt from the pistons up. Cylinders were honed by Boring Bob, head was rebuilt by Nolands.
The Speedometer and Tach are both NOS Honda.
