That's what happened to my stock coils while messing with syncing the carbs. Bike wasnt running but the key was on. Is this just what happens when coils die? Or did a gremlin kill them?
so made the decision to buy some Dyna Coils. I figure 3ohm as they should work nicely with the Pamco Ignition and plan to upgrade that when it becomes available. Where is the best place people have picked up Dyna Coils? obviously ebay it not the best deal out there. Has anyone used the red "Vtech" Dyna clones on ebay? seem to be a good price, but are the cheap quality?
you got it! now, I will condition this by saying that I haven't run the bike under load yet... however with the pamco ignition and those coils it starts first kick, idles like a kitten purring and revs like a banshee! I should know tomorrow if it does the business under load as well!
Yeah. It was crazy when they blew. White smoke coming from under the gas tank, sizzling, pops, etc. I'm not sure about 3ohms. I'm leaning more towards the mikes XS coils now. The Pamco system says they need to be between 2.5 and 4.5 ohms so the dyna 5ohm is not ideal... or at least it reads that way.
the mikesxs coils aren't a perfect bolt on, you have to make little decks for them, i did mine with a bit of flat aluminum... not sure there are any replacement coils that don't require some fabrication to install...
one is signal (from pamco or points) the other is ground, but i forget which way around... i'll let you know tonight if someone else hasn't chimed in with the answer...
It was all going so well. Got the coils all mounted and working.. Then the tank wouldnt fit over it... Made the coils as "small" as I could and it was still really tight....
In come the hammer to the tunnel... Now I have flaked paint and a broken petcock... Vibrations must have sheered it. If it ain't one thing, it's another.
As luck would have it I reached out to Clay at Atom Bomb cycles here in town. He is an artist with a Tig welder and is going to take a go at fixing the petcock bung... What is the best way to vent out the gas fumes inside? The tank has been sealed... Can I rinse it out with water?
ive also heard people fill the tank completely with water. ive never tired it mysef but a one of my customers that works at a bodyshop said thats what he does.
