CB350 Conversion, Project, PITA, etc

that is fucking ingenious.... i say add this one to JRK's $50 mod thread... i would love to make one (properly) for myself.

I can't take credit for it. Someone on the 450 forum told me how. I'm not actually sure how you set the floats on other models, and you have to make sure to put some towels down underneath your carbs as you will be dribbling gas on your engine.

The actual tool looks like this.

Here are the forks.

They are rather pitted from alot of moisture stuck inside the boot. One of them had several ounces of water pour out when we removed it from the trees.

Here is how she sits at the moment. You can see the chain that my girl cleaned at the bottom. And a bucket in the background is where the electrolisys is taking place. It actually works. Also the CB tank and the seat that I am going to canibalize for the cafe transfo are on the bottom shelf.

Here is some of the new stuff that we got. I only got two clamps for the rearsets because I want to mount them a bit lower than WildBill did (the lower attach point will be on the current passenger peg mount plate). The patch says "Southern Discomfort". My girl got them for me, the large one for my jacket and the smaller one for hers. She's the awesomeest.

And yes I know the garage is a wreck. Alot of it is stuff that I brought home from my old job that I haven't gotten put away just yet. You aren't my mother, so shut up.

LOL bro my garage looks the same. Have to donate a bunch of stuff. Yard sales take too much out of me and last time I had one here(vise my last home TX,where I made some good cash) it sucked.

looking good! man i dont know how you do it... i go nuts looking for tools and crap if it is not perfectly put up... i am anal like that i guess... the inside of the house is another story!

So long as the tools are where I put them, I am fine. I remember the location of everything.

The Kobalt toolbox is new. It is kinda beat up and was free from my old job when I left. Need it as I am completely out of room in my portable.

So the Yami rearsets didn't work as well as I wanted to... they're for sale if anyone wants them.

I found these Aprilia rearsets that should do the job in a spectacular manner.

The girlfriend has been busy helping out. I come home everyday to find that she has spent a good bit of time polishing and sanding things.

So far, we've gotten the the shocks, headlamp bucket, one of the side covers, and the header pipes done.

Also, she helped me pull the wires out of the handlebars, so I should be able to work on those soon.

I took your advice and made the carb float tool out of an old credit card. It needed a bit of adjustment.

BTW: The electrolysis method for rust removal, works wonders if you have the time. Its pretty cool.

Unfortunately, I am going to have to wait on warmer weather before I can do too much more on the tins because I need to use some of the paint stripper.

Oh yeah, and I started tearing the seat down to its pan, which will give me a basis for the cafe seat.

She did an absolutely amazing job on the shocks. I was flabbergasted when I saw them. I wish I had a "Before" picture.

Pictures..

Awww did she lay out the pipes a Valentines heart, :D how sweet, No I mean it, it all looks sweet.

Actually, I laid the pipes in that shape.

She thought it was sweet too.

While I was at work, she finished sanding the second side cover and touched up the first.

After I posted we got the wires and controls pulled from the old set of handlebars.

And thanks for the compliments, I'll pass them on.

Okay,

Mystery of the day. I found some information written on the rear rim.

I found the following written on it.

"Takasago 185BX18 W IL Japan"

Did some searching on it, and I can't find anything about it. Currently its fitting a 4.00x18 Contino replaceental tire that I am desperately wanting to replace...

Anybody have any ideas on this rim? And if anyone missed it, came on a suzuki center.

Takasago was I think a major manufacturer for OEM rims. My Yamaha rims are a mix of DID and Takasago. The rest is the sizing and who knows what else.

Yeap Takasago went on to become Excel I believe. If Im right, and please someone correct if I'm not , its 1.85 wide/ B = rear / 18 diamiter.

Any idea on what size tires I could fit on it? 110? 120? etc?

Let me get this right. You go to work while your girlfriend stays home to sand and polish your motorcycle parts? Why haven't you married her? Are you waiting until she learns how to weld?

All my CB350s had 1.85/18 front and 2.15/18 rear. CLs have a 19 front and SLs have 21 front.

Yeah, its a CL that someone put some CB parts onto, and I'm left trying to figure it all out.

The front is a 19 incher and the rear is, well, what you saw above. So I am guessing if mine is a 1.85, then its narrower than a CB rear.

I have both 18s on mine. I fie a 110/90 18 spitfire back there and it looks nice. I have a 100/90 up front but it's an 18. Maybe you can get your hands on a 18 in fron rim from a cb, depends on the look you want I guess.

Imoale,

Is your 18" rear a 2.15 or 1.85?

The ones I'm finding on ebay that actually say the width are all saying 1.85 for a CB rear. This 4.00 just looks like its crammed on their in an uncomfortable manner. I'd like to put a 120 or whatever Avon but don't want to order unless I am sure it will fit. WildBill tossed a 120 Avon AM26 on his rear but I haven't been able to get ahold of him to ask what rim he has out back.

Oh well, picture time from the past week or so.
