CB350 G build (electronic ignition installed, and it actually works, pics added)

Been Around the Block
What's goin on guys. I've been lurking on this board for quite a while and finally am able to really work on my build.

I bought this bike a couple of years ago and stripped most of the tabs off of it and stripped the frame down to bare metal. I then primed it with rattle can acid etching primer and then shot it with Rust-O-Leum metal flake gold color. I also picked up a set of clip-ons, Brembo master cylinder, H-4 replacement headlight, HID relacement light system, a custon 2 into 1 exhaust, smaller battery and custom battery/electrical tray, hump style original seat, and a few other things here and there.

Things I still have to do/get braided brake line(master cylinder has a micro switch for brake lights), having a buddy of mine that builds custom stuff make me a custom set of aluminum rear sets, connecting rods for the shift side, and finish the electrical work.

For some reason I can't figure out how to post pics so as soon as I figure it out I'll post some pics.

Re: CB350 G build

Thanks!!

I want to say either Auto-Zone, Discount Auto Parts, or Pep Boys. I really can't remember. I think it was Dupli-Color brand.

Just a small question , forgive me if i am being dim, but how does it run with the exhaust ? as due to the way the left hand down pipe joins the right it would make the left hand pipe a longer in length to the silencer than the right hand one,. So the carberation would be different for each cylinder and also the power delivery, (I think a longer down pipe gives more low down power and a short pipe more peak power, and surely it would change the torque curve as well as BhP delivery) ??? :-\

Re: CB350 G build

Honestly I haven't ran the bike with this exhaust on it yet. I got it from a buddy of mine who totatled his bike(a huge tree branch fell on his bike in the last storm we had come through the state, not much else was salvagable on the bike.) His bike ran awsome and pulled pretty good for a 350.

Re: CB350 G build

that tip you have on the end of your muffler is titties. i dont think that the length would affect the performance too much, because they both mix together and exit the same pipe

Re: CB350 G build

UPDATE:

I got all of the wireing hooked up and the electric start still works with the small battery I have. I got the headlight all hwired up and mounted as well. I also moved the clip ons which give it a better feel and way better look. I also mounted the seat and tail light/plate holder mounted to the seat. I'll be taking more pics tomorrow when I have a little bit of time. Hopefully the rearsets will be here in about a week or so and I'll be able to get those all mounted up. I've got a guy making me custom aluminum mounts for the rearsets but until he finishes those I will be using the 1in 3-piece clamp.

Re: CB350 G build

I finaly got around to working on the bike a little bit. I added the Bosch Blue coils, which are awsome, used some MSD 8mm wires, new plugs, mounted the rear-sets, and mounted the seat. I did get the bike to start the other day but it was only running on one cylinder. I know the carbs need rebuilt so I'll do that and check the timing and see what I can come up with.

Heres some pics of the bike.

Let me know what you think of the bike

Re: CB350 G build

I have to agree with AllieKat: That exhaust must work horribly. I made a similar exhaust for my CB350, but used a proper merge collector that I fabricated myself. Check it out here: http://www.motofiaccone.com/moto/40-chris-bike/75-building-a-2-1-exhaust. You have a nice bike, but the exhaust design is really effing with the overall package.

That said, take it for what it's worth: an anonymous Internet opinion. No harm; no foul.

Re: CB350 G build

Thanks for the responses. Once I rebuild the carbs and get the bike running I'll try both this exhaust set up and the original head pipes, the mufflers were completely rusted out. I'm just waiting for a few things to come in before I have it running.

Re: CB350 G build

Update:

I've been working on the bike on and off for a while. I've got alot of the little stuff squared away. I've got the carbs off and rebuilding them now. I picked up an awsome cl exhaust set up for it. I'll post some more pics once I get the camera back.

Re: CB350 G build

Troy, I saw something like that on eBay.

I like the frame color on your bike, however your right foot looks cramped up in there with that exhaust. Looks like it's in the way. How did you mount your taillight?

Re: CB350 G build

Hot Rod Troy: I got the light from ebay. I'm actualy going to be switching it with a black led unit.

Goodfornothing: Thanks, I love goldish color frames too. The riding position is actualy very comftable. But I'm getting rid of that exhuast and going with a set up from a cl350. I mounted the light to the bottom of the seat pan. All I did was take a piece of 90* aluminum and screwed it to the bottom of the seat pan with some self tapping screws.

Re: CB350 G build

well, hes going to have to jet the carbs regardless.... but i do not think there will be much issue of backpressure, due to the other pipe being sent to the same area, its like forcing water down a pipe at 2 ends. either way each pipe is going to experience the same amount of resistance. *note* im no english major so bare with me here. im more intrested to hear how that yoshi pipe sounds on that thing :D

Re: CB350 G build

Here are some updated pics of the bike with the new exhuast on. I'm going to have to redo the rear sets. I'm probably going to use the pasenger peg mounts. Should be a little more comfy too.

goodfornothing: here is a pic of how I mounted the light to the bottom of the seat.

and here is a pic of the acewell gauge set I'm using.

Re: CB350 G build (finally an update)

So the bike has been on the back burner for quite a while. First I messed my wrist up pretty bad, got switched to nights at work, and have been scraping money to get by. But I have been working my but off on the bike and am so close to getting it finished.

I rebuilt the carbs using the lemon juice method, which worked awesome. I am just waiting for seals to come in to put them back on the bike.

I pulled my battery and built a tray under the seat that doesn't hang down to much and isn't visible from the sides. I've also been completely re-wiring the bike. I ran as much of the wiring through the frame as I could so it would look super clean. I only have a little bit left to do with the wiring and I'm on a stand still again as my wife had to have her appendix removed this afternoon. Hopefully she'll get let out of the hospital tomorrow so I can work on the bike as she is laying around. I already took off all weekend to help her out around the house.

I'm also waiting for my new clutch perch and throttle housing to come in as I'm eliminating all the clutter from the bars. There's gonna be only two wires that come up the bars to the brake light switch.

I also ditched the clip-ons for some Motocross bars I had lying around. I also got my Avon's mounted, rims painted black, and a new hid conversion headlight that I'm gonna try and see how much it drains my battery. If it's to bad I'm gonna ditch it for the 35/35w H4 bulb.

I will be adding pics soon as I'm lying on the awesome pull out bed right now typing this and don't have any recent pics.

Re: CB350 G build
