CB350 Seat on stock pan//It's Done Finally

Thought I would share some pics of the seat I built for my CB. Still have a little shaping work to do in the nose area but it is about 95 percent shaped. I just wanted to keep my stock pan and still make a functional cafe seat. It will be a while before I get to wrap it, but I will post when that happens.

Re: CB350 Seat on stock pan

That should look very nice when it's all covered and done. What kind of padding did you use?

Re: CB350 Seat on stock pan

Thanks, the whole bike will be undergoing a transformation this winter. The padding is a high density closed cell foam cut in 1" thick sections from a block that my work place manufactures. They are looking into selling this product to the public due to the lack of quality foam available to do it yourselfers. It really is nice foam to work with as it shapes so smoothly due to the cellular structure of the foam, much better than carpet underlayment padding.

Re: CB350 Seat on stock pan

Nice, I'm sure they'd find several customers right here. ;) Folks around here are always looking for good foam to make custom seats.

Re: CB350 Seat on stock pan

keep it up man im anxious to see it covered!

No actually it is still sitting uncovered, as I couldn't decide what color to wrap it in. I was thinking about going the same color as the paint but it might end up black in the end. If you have any questions let me know, I would be glad to help out in any way I can.

Re: CB350 Seat on stock pan

Ok cool thanks. Are you wraping it yourself or having it done? Are you from wi I'm in il so if you have yours done and it turns out good I'll just go to where you did probly. As for that foam you know where I can purchase anything like that?

Yes, I will sew and wrap the cover myself (upholstery happens to be my trade). The foam is product that we are manufacturing at my place of employment and it will be available soon to the market. As I work in Product Development I felt it was necessary to provide diy'ers a quality foam product that could be available to anyone not just those in the trade. I will let you when it is available. BTW, here are a couple photos of a co-workers seat that we used the same foam on, Stout did all the shaping and I told him how to pattern the cover and then I sewed it up for him and we wrapped it, turned out pretty good I think. You can see his Tracker build in the Big Ass project Tracker section it's the RD250 build.

Damn I need to visit you lol. I've wanted this style seat for along time but have no clue who would sew up a cover like that

Re: CB350 Seat on stock pan

Lovely work. It's easy to feel pleased with a DIY until you see what a pro can do.

Re: CB350 Seat on stock pan

thanks Flash,
I will try to get the CB seat wrapped up here in the next couple of weeks, so you can see what is possible using the stock pan.

JRK, Basically I built up the foam, carved it to my rough shape, smoothed it out and covered it with neoprene, smoothed out thiis layer again, used lightweight plastic to pattern it, cut, sewed, and wrapped my vinyl. I realize this is a simple explanation but if you would like more detailed info let me know and I can walk you through it.

Basement Rat, yes all the French seams are reinforced with a 1200 denier polyester backer material and beneath that I always use a layer of plastic between the foam and cover to prevent water intrusion into the foam.
