CB350 Starter Removal

Been Around the Block
Hey All!

I'd like to remove the starter from my CB350 and have seen that tons of people have done it, however there isn't a comprehensive list of every piece I need (get) to hunt down and take out. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Remove starter and chain. No need to remove anything else.
You will need to block off the big hole in the case now. Forum member crazypj sells one or there are other suppliers. Or go ghetto with an expandable freeze plug from the plumbing section of your local hardware store.
You could remove the starter solenoid, as well.

bad, dumb idea going kick only when the kicker mecahism fails, from constant use, which it will, then it's time to pull out the engine and do pretty major surgery

I don't condone removing the starter, I just answered the question. I really don't see the appeal.

:) thanks for all the info!

What about the starter solenoid? and the starter gear?

I get why you'd keep the starter, but I'm going to keep it on hand and for now kick-start only. I've heard some really strong opinions on both sides - some (as you do) say that the starter is a solid thing to keep, others describe the starter as a grenade waiting to go wrong, and/or 15lbs of unnecessary weight. I figure I'll put it in a nice little box and see how I like the bike w/out it.

Yes, you can remove the solenoid and the starter gear/clutch, if you want.
You can really take as much or little as you want. The main things are the starter, chain, and plug the hole.

Is that 15 pounds (if it really is even that much) going to really make you faster?
Have you tuned and upgraded everything else that this is the weak link?

I find it funny when I see stock pegs, clubmans, firestone tires and pods on a bike with the starter removed for weight savings.....

And if you are going to "try and see how you like it" why remove it? just don't use it....

Fair enough, and a good point. Honestly the main reason was because it had some messy wiring and as I'm cleaning it up anyways and starting from minimal wiring, I figured it would be reasonable to cut it out. You're right, though, and thank you for the advice. It stays in!

:D

I have a ton to learn, and will gladly take any advice y'all have. I'm just happy to be learning it all, and hopefully down the road I'll be the one able to hand some advice out.

Leave the starter, just don't wire it in now. If you decide to use it down the road it's really simple to wire into the existing harness.
