CB350 Upper fork crowns/trees

Hi Guys,

Can someone explain the year differences in cb350 forks? When did the uppers have pinchbolts?

I see some have an upper crown with pinchbolts, but my 71 CL350 has an upper crown where the fork legs/stanchions bottom into the crown.

I know CB and CL lowers are interchangeable, and the fork seals are actually different (learned that one the hardway).

I guess my question is, can I use a pinchbolt style upper crown with the opposite style fork stanchions? (lowering my bike an inch in the front via the pinch bolts)

1972 started the "pinchbolt" type, up till then the top of the tubes were tapered and fit into the upper triple clamp with a bolt.
