hey gents. just wondering if any 350f fans out there have had a similar issue and can offer insight:
ive got a ping. ping ping ping ddd-ing ding ding ding going on. during acceleration, and when i grab the clutch for an up shift. it sounds like a loose bolt rattling around, but its not! the bike is tight front to rear. i mean absolutely perfect. the ping has been going on for about 6 months. she runs and rides great. timing is spot on. i pulled the oil pan and dug around with a magnet thinking something may have come loose in the tranny. nothing. forks are rebuilt. sounds like its coming from the front end but there is nothing loose or rattling anywhere. when i put the bike up on the center stand i can go through all the gears and not hear it. shaking it around while its not running i cant hear it. im stumped. anyone out there have a 350f that just pinged? its starting to drive me nuts after running through it front to back and not finding anything! thanks guys, happy memorial day.

:Lotsa stuff to ping on that bike. Starter throw out rollers, cam chain tensioner, glides or rollers, Kick start spring or gears.

Does the ping increase in frequency when revs are increased?

Is the ping a;ways the same volume?

It could be detonation. Did you set the timing with a light at full advance? Are you using cheap 87 octane gas. Try 93 octane premium and see if the 'ping' gets better.

Is your front brake caliper adjusted properly? Could be rattling or making slight contact with the wheel/spokes.

thanks guys, its driving me nuts! i always run high octane gas, timing is dead on at full advance. brake caliper is solid, i just rebuilt it last week and adjusted it. i removed the center stand to shave weight and checked for any chain rub. the ping stays the same volume but frequency is always random.

ok gents. i am stoked because i found the ping but i feel like an idiot because it was so stupid... when i had the bike on the stand running through the gears, and when i shook it around, i had a grip on the front brake. i always wondered why i couldnt hear it sitting at a stoplight, only during acceleration and at cruising speeds. so... the F@%#@ front brake lever was rattling around in the MC!!!!!! so 99 cents for a little rubber bushing and im set.I get the idiot award for the year i think. Thank you all for your help. cheers.

I'll be the first to tell you, noises on a moto have a funny way of jumping around, especially when they only occur in motion!

Glad you figured it out bud
